Changing a Religion
Is there a way to change your religion? I've been hoping for a "peasant war" or some other event to help me make the change.

In theory you can change from any religion to any other religion.
Some changes are easy, just one click (e.g. Catholic->Reformed), some changes require some work and others may be very hard or even impossible (Inti->Jewish) depending on your skills, your nation and the game situation.

Which religion are you and to which religion do you want to change?

In general, you must have a religious revolt to change religions. The best way to do this:

1. Take a province which has the religion you want.
2. Put in a missionary in the province and set the missionary maintenance slider to zero. This prevents actual conversion.
3. Check the rebel type after a few months. Sometimes, it can be difficult to get a religious revolt instead of a nationalist revolt and it may take a few tries.
4. Park your army as far away as possible, such as in an allies territory.
5. Let the revolt spread to as many provinces as possible.
6. Eventually, the revolt will automatically enforce demands, setting all occupied provinces to the new religion.
7. Repeat steps 2-6. This second time the rebels win, your religion will change as long as more than 50% of your provinces have the new religion.

This is how to get this achievement:

While this is true, doing the 2 step process means that the rebels will convert a lot more land for you.

Having said this, I must admit that I did the 1 step process for Sindh (my screenshot) since I quit the run upon getting the achievement and did not care how much extra land was converted.

It was a bit ago, and I actually cannot recall if the threshold is 50% provinces converted or 50% development converted. All I did was dance with the rebels until the enforced revolt included the religion change.

Thank you all again. I'll go back and see what I can do.

During war, rebels cannot break your country (enforce demand). Declare on a weak target and fully occupy them and then you can just leave the religious rebel to convert all your provinces before converting, saving you time and money manually converting them yourself.

Also note that this is only for changing to entirely different religions.
Many religions let you change to a different branch of the same religious group (catholic->protestant) with the top-left button in the religion screen.

If your a small enough nation, another quick, fast way to convert to another religion, is to attack someone of the religion of choice, get a 100% warscore, then instead of offering terms of their surrender like you'd normally do, you instead offer terms of YOUR surrender, with that term being forced religion change against yourself. Not sure if that works for all religions or not though. (unless PDX very recently patched this out)

This works only for changing between religions in the same religious group.
