You form a royal marriage with Burgundy (don't accept their offer because the marriage will break when Charles dies, which kills your chances) and keep relations high. Then you roll the dice and hope that Charles gets Marie as an heir, that he dies before 1500, and that you win the Burgundy lottery.
The royal marriage part is only necessary if you're fishing for the Burgundian Inheritance as a nation that isn't France or the HRE Emperor. As France, all you can do is keep relations with Burgundy high and, if possible, try to tank their opinion with the Emperor (bonus points if they rival the Emperor or the Emperor rivals them). Apart from that, all you can really do is pray the Inheritance happens before 1500, because if Burgundy is allowed to join the HRE and the Burgundian Inheritance still fires they'll be 10 times more likely to pick the Emperor.

Ah, right, France doesn't need the marriage but does benefit from high relations. The marriage helps with that, of course, and it also occupies a diplo relation slot. Burgundy isn't exactly overflowing with those, so a marriage/alliance with France might prevent a more dangerous marriage from forming.

You actually don't need either of those either. You just need Charles to die, that's all. The heir (or lack thereof) doesn't matter. The year doesn't matter too much either. Although after 1500 they can complete their mission to join the HRE which could make them more likely to pick the emperor, sill definitely possible to get them after that though.

There is one situation in which the heir matters: The burgundian inheritance won't happen If Charles dies while the heir is at least 15 years old and has a strong enough claim so that he starts with at least 40 legitimacy. This is very unlikely if the Leviathan DLC is active, because they have a modifier which reduces their claim strength over time. But without Leviathan, the claim strength doesn't change, so it is more likely that an heir still has enough claim strength when he or she turns 15.
