appanages of France
I'm trying myself on a Provence game, dragged france down as my ally, everyone declared on him and i bailed. 5 years later i declared on the french remnants and released Gascony and Toulouse as an independent OPM so i could vassalize and retake cores. Turns out they start as an appanages of France. so i release an independent nation guaranteed by yours truly and france gains a new minions.
i did release them from another Appanage instead of the French main body if that helps.

now i had to eat the AE take the provinces myself and release vassals.

another weird thing that happened was Orleans declared independence war, won and took 4 Provinces of France + 3 for Aragon, money and reparations but stayed his Appanage.

That's causing the issue. I think it is a side effect of the semi-independence of the appanage subject type. The same happens if you release a subject from a Daimyo. Both subject types can fight other subjects of the same overlord and if they release something, it makes sense that this becomes a subject as well. But you could consider it a bug that it also happens if an independent country forces the ovverlord to release the country.

Another side effect of the semi-independence. I'm not sure if it is intended or not, that they can take land without gaining independence. But even if that is intended, I think it is a bug that the AI subject doesn't value its independence high enough. They should probably always take independence if they have enough warscore to get that peace term. But it might make sense that they take a few warscore worth of land if they can't get independence

I'm pretty sure in the first war they have 80 or 100% considering how much he took from France.

anyway Orleans had their 2nd war of independence, 100% WS, reduced france to 2 provinces, and stayed his Appanage... i wonder if i vassalize France now what happens to BigOrleans? do i get it for free without AE or does he inherit them like the minor PU's of Burgundy.
i got a mega Austria, right now still allied with me but sooner or later he's gonna war me

I think they will become free if you vassalize France or they might stay an appanage. But if you fully annex France, all their subjects should become your subjects(except junior partners which become free).

thx, it worked great, now i have a rebellious appanage with 9 provinces including paris for zero AE. i made him spit out everything Gascony for reconquest on England.
time to drag western europe into a war, so no one supports independence, and collect those sweet war reps for funding my nation. Time to declaring on England, Portugal, Aragon, Britanny, Savoy and Marrakesch. I let Spain, Austria and the Pope do the heavy lifting while keeping my lands safe. Austria alone could handle them all but Spain gets to break alliances for my future PU with them, as they claimed my throne after my ruler died, sooner or later i'm going to return the favor.
straying so far from the things i wanted to do: PU Aragon ( can't they are peasant republic early) and Hungary is a PU under Austria same as is Burgundy like 10 years after gamestart.
