If you go that route, be sure you don't form Spain. Spain is an end-game tag that can become Rome, but it can't become Sardinia-Piedmont.
In 2016 I made a run for Consulate of the Sea, and along the way decided to tag switch to Italy. As I wrote in my AAR, "Forming Spain would be easy. Integrate Castile, press button. Spain. But forming Italy would be considerably more difficult. Not only am I the wrong culture, I also hold none of the required territory to form Italy. So with Spain being the obvious choice, I chose Italy. "
Of course I did. Not sure what got in to me, but I decided to document this run with a detailed AAR, complete with images, on another site. EU IV is not a popular game there, and the comments were few. But a lot of work went in to it dammit, so I want to link it here in case anyone might find it interesting. From 2016, and whichever version of EU existed at that time.
