Tinto Talks #17: Pop Mechanics
The new dev diary can be found here: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/developer-diary/tinto-talks-17-19th-of-june-2024.1689183/

Today, it's about the pop mechanics that will be one of the main focuses of EU5. The DD is definitely worth a read-through, but until we see this system in action, it's impossible to say if it will be engaging and fun or not.

yeah. we all know what you meant and if we can't laugh at silly mistakes like this, then the world becomes too sad.

17 of these tinto talks and I still feel like I don't know almost anything about EU5. I know they are looking for feedback but it's impossible to give any without actually being able to actually play the game and interact with those mechanics.

Are they looking for feedback, or just giving some insights into what's designed so far? Feedback with no experience in the game is no feedback at all. May as well critique a chef's meal before he's ready to serve it - unless there's something very obviously catastrophic about the setup, there's no point to complaining. You simply DO NOT know what the outcome is.

They are advertising the game.
They are trying to build excitement, yet seem to be doing the opposite.
We have seen it before, hype it up to get the first sales, watch the numbers drop and move on.
You can call me negative or you can call me experienced, I dont really care.

Yeah, they aren't taking feedback on of basic mechanics. They have implemented a number of suggested map name changes, changes to cultural boundaries, and so on. Those matter greatly to some folks, but not me. None of them will impact the core gameplay.

I'm not really sure how I feel about it, but it seems like it's becoming a lot more like VIC2/3 than I thought it'd be. I get that they want to move away from mana/mana-like features like manpower after Imperator, but I hope they don't end up making EU5 too convoluted like what's happened with VIC3 and HOI4.

ahhh the excel sheet looks beautiful I'm glad that V3 learned and now EU5 can implemented properly.

I'm loving it!:income::income:

not that it matters, but one of the reasons I stopped playing Stellaris was the pop system. if EU V is anything like Stellaris, I will likely pass

It does not look like is going to be like Stellaris where you truly need to do so much micromanagement but it's completely pointless. it looks more like Imperator.

So, finally got the chance to read the DDs...

It looks a lot like Johan's version of Vic 3 but set in the wrong time frame.

I have a lot more faith in Johan to make a good game than Wiz but I;m really not sure that Vic 3 Universalis is something I want to play.
Imperator Kings: Victorialis is certainly looking interesting so far. I'm doing my best to avoid getting hyped - time will tell whether it turns out to be a masterpiece, a dumpster fire, or a snoozefest - but I'll give it to Johan, he sure has a way of making it sound promising...

Indeed. The most I'll ever say about a game prior to actually playing it is that it looks promising and I might enjoy it.
