EU4 and Paradox DLC policy is absoultely disgusting
And as much as I love this game I'm never paying for all of these dlc's when I can buy full on games for the price of 2.

GO to eu4 store page, Click expand on the "dlcs" tab.( and if the sheer amount of 10-30$ dlc's don't trigger a red flag) click on each dlc and read the 5-8 "features" they add in each one while asking you for 20$ (at least on release)

In before. "you can just pay 11$ a month like a tax if you don't want to pay
CDN$ 499.77 (212.08 on sale)"

Oh ok how about this. The game released in 2013 and the BASE GAME STILL COSTS 53$ CAD (with 16$ on sale right now)

So you are going to charge people 53$ for a bare bones game that came out in 2013 that had another 500$ in DLC's when not on sale?

This is on par with Wargaming charging 50-60$ for a single tank in their game.

Nah. I'm going to wait until EU5 releases and they finally put this game and all it's dlcs down to like 60$ before i buy it, then I will play it until EU6 comes out and EU5 and it's 20 dlc's for 500$ drops down to 60$ and buy it..... then I will prob die before EU7 cause I'm not living to be a very old man.

I love supporting devs. I have so many games in my steam library that I purchased that I haven't spent a single second playing or even loaded up. Hundreds of dollars worth if nor more. If I really like a game/dev I will even buy the bs soundtrack/artbook DLC that I will never open just to support them.... but Paradox......... The last game I bought was hoi4 and I stopped buying it's expansions after like the 4th one........ (adding ♥♥♥♥ that should be in the game already like tank/plane designers etc)

THe last game I was happy about my purchase from Paradox was buying Hearts of iron 3 and it's 3 expansions that were all great. EXPANSIONS not DLC'S

Remember when games used to give its customers free updates, content and patches to support the game as a way of saying thankful to the customer and keep them satisfied with the game and the company?

Paradox is in the top 3 most greedy companies on PC. I honestly think UBISOFT is a better company then Paradox. At least when they drop a 30$ dlc expansion for a game like Valhalla I know I am getting a huge chunk of gameplay. Not 8 features for 25$ that could have been coded overnight.....

I mean a good example of a game that was released "bare bones" that they corrected with expansions (and I'm sure it was on purpose) was civ 5. Bare bones civ 5 was terrible. A couple xpacs later and it was a classic.... and my personal fav civilization of all time.

I would happily buy eu4 for full price if it was the base game and a couple expansions.

The best arguement I have gotten from anyone is that "well the game came out in 2013 so it's had 11 years of constant support/updates.

MY counter to that is.... yea they mod their own game, call it DLC and charge us out the butt for it.

It would make more sense if they started making some of the first few DLC's free or included with the base game, or decreased the price drastically to 3-5$ a pop FULL PRICE (and ofc less on sale) but no they don't

They want us to pay hundreds of dollars for a game that came out in 2013 that they have a dedicated team of "modders" to charge us dlc with.

If you gave the community the source code/modding tools to be bale to do anything with the game... modders could have done just about every single DLC mechanic for free and put it on the steamwork.

TLDR? There is a difference between creating expansions packs, dlc's (which should be small little cheap additions) and modding the game and calling it "DLC" "Immersion packs" "expansions" etc and charging money for it.

The last true expansion paradox released that I saw was Their Finest Hour for hoi3

I don't think I've ever bought one of these DLC directly on steam.
I've spent around... 300€ on EU4, for 1000+ hours, I mean, it's not a bad ratio compared to some other games ( like any single player AAA that most player will 100% in around 50 to 100 hours ).
I still think they are overpriced ( which is why I don't buy those on steam directly ), but the game is over 10 years old, if you want a continuous development for a niche game, then yes, you'll need to finance it one way or another.
You don't need to finance it. They're alternative ways involving not paying a cent for a game, like sharing libraries. One person can share a huge amount of game on Steam to a huge amount of people. It's even easier on GOG as it doesn't require an account.
i feel sad when it comes to price XD
american next door paying everything 20-30% cheaper.
and when i see how much it cost to buy all the DLC on eu4 or cities skyline. i really question myself if i should keep buying these kind of game XD
In the end E4 and other PDOX game (looking at you HOI4, Stellaris and CK3) is a hidden subscription model. Because of FOMO the players will give money to Pdox at certain intervals of time.

I know I bought every DLC for this and now I´m buying stuff for Stellaris since it´s the game I´m playing now.
No need for that...

Sorry you feel that way.

You didnt even read that long thing didnt you? XD Wouldnt bother anyway, same thing i would say IF i read it than without:

You say its expensive? Buy the DLC pass for 8 bucks then! All of them combined in it AND you will most likely not play more than 1 month anyway, so you basicaly safe the rest of the money HARD

No it isn't.

Your opinion on what should be the price isn't objective fact.

We aren't obligated to agree with you.

Also, your argument could be used for literally any expansion ever made.

You are complaining about DLC for the sake of complaining about DLC there is no reason for having a problem with EU4's and not, Civ 5's, for example.

Your opinion is all that matters and is final m'lord

I really wish there was competition in the Grand Strategy sphere. There is no other game quite like EU.

For good reasons... Games like EU are not too popular... So you have to made the game really cheap (aka bad graphic, small scale etc.)... or do it like Paradox aka expensive to players. There seems not to be middle ground in here!
There is now. Field of Glory: Kingdoms Published by Slitherine Ltd is a Grand Strategy game similar to EU4 for $39.99. Whether it's any good or not only time will tell.
Sadly, you aren't gonna find much support in this discussion board, some of these people are so far gone, they cant help but huff Paradox's farts. I have bought EU4 stuff a long time ago, but Paradox policy truly is aggregious, and their new games are just worse and worse, so I don't support them with my money anymore. People saying they need money for development are just coping. They could very likely price the DLC at half price, and still turn a good profit. If you look anything relating to the company and its publishing wing, you can very quickly realize they are EA tier, with the company having near entirely having lost its spirit.
It's always weird when people who claim to dislike something hover around that thing and try to spread their feelings towards others rather than moving on from what they disliked and putting their time and energy toward something they enjoy, and let others enjoy what they in turn happen to enjoy. Just weird psychology in that.

Aww finally a rational person. Yea don't worry about me mate they can ridicule me or tell me I am wrong or my opinion sucks all they want, I know that I am right about these devs. They used to make expansion packs and now they mod their game as dlcs. They need to combine 3-4 of the dlcs for the same price but they milk people

I honestly don't know what profit they make but I bet it's good. It's an older fanbase that plays these games and they generally have more money to spend on these games. I wonder if they would make more money with half the number of dlc's and ame content with same price with more buyers or if they milk their older dedicated fan base it's more profit?

It would be interesting to know.

But yea coming here to a place where everyone is a fan of the game... I can't expect anything else

I am looking at this new field of glory kingdoms game though... it looks the closest to eu4 ive seen. I might buy it and check it out
