The thing about the league is. Members that are at war wont join the league war.
So when the Ottomans are part of the Catholic League and carry its strength with 150k troops... The protestant leader AI just attacks once they cant join. So there is no way to guarantee the league war not firing if you arent leader.
But yeah, to prepare for it, he should have grown enormously, constructed a great fort system, made powerful allies like Poland (which he did) and France, the Ottomans, and Spain (which he didn't mention), and so on. The more total troops, forts, and provinces the enemy has to deal with, the more confused it gets and the worse it does.
This is the best way to win the league war (you also need to keep the ai from doing the same to your side until you gain a strong upper hand)
Does it require enforcing protestantism or just a win (i.e. any peace deal better than wp)? My one Sweden run I got booted out of the league war even though I was the protestant side leader due to a poorly timed succession war triggering in the middle of it...
If you keep them in the war their armies still run around.
