Bootstrapper error - Couldn't start launcher

So. This happens to this game, and another paradox game, Hearts of Iron IV.
Yesterday i had some issues with my computer which ultimately led me to restore the computer to a restore point.
This was before i installed both of these games. I was confused when i started up steam afterwards and saw them both installed.
I uninstalled and reinstalled, just to get this issue. I've also tried validating the files. However no success there either.

Any ideas?

Launcher problems can often be fixed by reinstalling the launcher:
On Windows, first use the windows uninstall function to uninstall "Paradox Launcher v2"(if it is there). And then delete the launcher directories(if they exist):

• C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
  
• C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
  
• C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
  
• Documents/paradox interactive/.cpatch/
  
• every directory in Documents/paradox interactive/ that starts with launcher-v2

In Linux delete the directories ~/.paradoxlauncher and "~/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/" and the file "~/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/launcherpath"

In macOS delete the directory "~/Library/Application Support/Paradox Interactive"


Afterwards you can start the game from steam again to reinstall the launcher.

For my case i was only been able to unistall launcher (and make it work again) by launcher-installer-windows.msi (in the games directory)
It is strange that even verify files do nothing to this issue.
Paradox and steam should somewhat work on their interoperability ...

Im bumping this in case someone deals with the same problem. In my case was happening with EU4 and Cities Skylines.

Paradox should fix this ASAP.

Always I have to uninstall the launcher. After every new start of the computer. That is NOT amusing!

Same problem: stops running shortly after clicking play on launcher. Solutions here [launcher reinstall] did not work. Recent Windows 10 update an issue, but rolled back and it was working for a while. EU4 and Stellaris launchers do not work now.

Do you get the error message "Bootstrapper error"? If not, you have a different problem and you should make a new post about it so that this thread doesn't get diluted.

Been Happening with me, tried all of the fixes suggested at the top, no Joy. It has been put on paradoxes site so they obviously are in the know....fingers crossed a quick hotfix comes in the week

The fix that worked for me was to go computer, edit or uninstall programs (or w/e its called) Write in launcher and you should find a program called Paradox launcher v2. Uninstall it, launch the game and it will reinstall the launcher. Fixed it for me atleast.

Tried uninstalling launcher and did the steps above and still not working :( tried several times and just redid it now on a clean reinstall with no luck. Can get into CK3, HOI4 & Stellaris just fine. Think call it a day and raise a ticket on their site if nothing comes out for it by tomorrow afternoon

Do you get the "Bootstrapper error" message or do you get a different message?

You're right, not a "bootstrapper errror," but rather a launcher error, so disregard here. Thanks.
