Can vassals colonize?
I heard that if you vassalize a country with colonial nations, you get their colonial nations. Since you can do that, can vassals colonize so they can expand my territory?

You won't "get" the colonial nations i think. The country you're trying to vassalize will continue to hold them and can continue to expand their colonies. This is why vassalizing Portugal is so tempting since they can do all the colonial work for you if they have the money to afford it.
If you annex a country(take their mainland provinces) than the colonial nations will become yours. Im not sure if it still the annexing stuff still works like that tough.

They do colonize. However, if they remain small they will not colonize very quickly so you may have to subsidize them substantially. 5 per month is usually enough to get one colonist going, but it may take more if you stay at war constantly.

You will get the colonial nations once you integrate the nation, and it will exist as a seperate nation instead of joining your existing CN if you already have one. So you can gain additional merchants from the same colonial region if it's large enough.

Not sure, that might only apply to your colonial subjects.

Im not sure about this but once you integrate the country their colonial nations merge with yours if they are in the same colonial region. That happened to me with France as England, they had Floride and it was annexed by the Thirteen Colonies.

Integrating I don't know, but annexing the overlord in war accomplishes this. You take over their colonial subject besides your own. But this only applies for them if they havn't declared independance ofcourse.

Colonial Nations don't merge if you integrate a country, even in the same region. Only single provinces that didn't form a colonial nation yet (less than 5 provinces) will join your colonial nation in the region they belong to. Had this after integrating Portugal as Spain.

Note here that officially you have colonies (the provinces you colonize) and colonial nations ( the colonial subjects that form if there are 5 cored provinces in the sane region. In the forums the context of the word colony when used can be different and depends on what is actual asked.

Back on topic:

1: Annexing a colonial overlord fully gives you the remaining subjects besides your own colonial subject. Even if it is the same region.
2: The overlords own colonies (from point 1) in regions where they have no colonial nation (=4 or less provinces for a region) yet are also part of it to annex.
3: When point 2 happens those mentioned provinces have either to be cored if you don't have an colonial subject yet so you can form a colonial nation. Or if you have a colonial nation already will be added to them the day after your peace. this leaves the coring cost for your subject.

The funniest thing is to not to vassalise but to constantly push colonial nation in right direction. In my party for Novgorod>Russia I didn't cease Moscow but
1. they colonize something in Siberia expanding to east.
2. i declare war and take their western lands.
3. go to step 1.

In the final of party Moscow was somewhere in Canada.
