France: Burgundian Succession and bid for HRE
Since I bought the Domination DLC, I've made three attempts as France to integrate the HRE. The point that ruins everything for me every time is the Burgundian Succession event. Despite vassalizing or forming a personal union with Burgundy, I don't directly inherit all of Burgundy according to the event, and I end up getting the "Reintegration of the Burgundian Lands" modifier each time. In the end, my major issue is that I can't make a "bid for the empire," even though I've chosen the branch with the HRE.
Can somebody tell me please what do I do wrong.

Don't vassalize or form a union with Burgundy (except via the Inheritance Imperial incident). Ally them and royal marry them. Then hope the Inheritance plays out in your favor.

I was basically referring to the mission 'Burgundian Succession,' which, from what I've seen, allows you to directly incorporate-integrate the territories of Burgundy into France. This is based on what I've observed in the Europa Universalis 4 Wiki regarding French missions. Besides that, I still haven't figured out why I can't play the HRE Branch Mission even though I choose it. No event or decision appears? I don't know.

Basically, I don't have the Emperor DLC, and that's what I wanted to find out why it's not working for me. I assume that's why I can't play the HRE as France aswell. Thank you.

You are able to play the Hre as France. You only have to get the electors to vote for you. As far as I know, it's always been that way.

Right, it has. You've been able to become HRE Emperor as France since Day 1 of version 1.0, more than 10 years ago. No DLC required, nothing has changed over the past decade there.

So, how do I get the electors to vote for me, and how long does it take for this to happen, eventually? I have made them have a positive opinion of me, 190+, and tried to make two of them my vassals. I am relatively new, and I don't know how everything works in EU4.

1) A new Emperor is elected when the old one dies. If the current Emperor is 15, you might have to wait half a century (or more) for the next election.

2) There are 7 electors. To win, you must get more votes than any other candidate. Ties go to the current Emperor. 4 votes for you is guaranteed to win. 3 is usually enough.

3) You can see who every elector will vote for by clicking on the HRE icon at the lower right of your screen. Hover over each elector and their preferred candidate to see why they pick them.

4) Many factors influence this. Relations. Alliances. Royal marriages. Whether or not you are a "large nation in the HRE." Diplo rep. Etc etc etc.

5) If you vassalize an elector, you are certain to eventually get their vote once you improve relations enough. HOWEVER, you also get a large penalty with all the other electors. They're upset with you for rigging the system. So, if you decide to go the vassalization route, you will probably need to do it to 3 or even 4 electors to win.

6) If you go the diplomacy route (which I recommend), it's usually easier. Do the things in 4) that help. Also, grant the "Religious Diplomats" estate privilege and take Diplo as your first idea group. Getting more, stronger diplomats will be a huge help, as will having another relations slot and higher diplo rep. Diplo is by far the best idea group in the game for someone planning an HRE run.

7) Austria, the starting Emperor, benefits from the "large nation in the HRE" bonus. Get rid of that bonus. Go to war with them and force them to release Tyrol, Styria, and any other nations you can. This may take multiple wars.

8) Monitor the situation in the HRE constantly. You should check every month to see if you're the preferred candidate or not and do literally anything necessary to ensure that you are.

Thank you very much for the advice and guidance; that's exactly what I needed.
