Player Castile Rivals
Is it guranteed to be England + Burgundy? I remember playing in the past allying them. Today I had 30 restarts and always the same rivals. I don't care about burgundy but england really? Was there a patch that gurantees rivals now or what?

I haven't played Castile in the latest patch yet, so I don't have personal experience. But the number of possible rivals for Castile, while not large, should still be more than two. Aragon, France, and others have qualified in the past.

They still often rival Aragon or France.

Every patch they tweak any of the starting conditions or the diplo ai you'll see the rival selections of nations change with some becoming seemingly automatic. It's technically not guaranteed but since the conditions at start are always the same the available rivals will also be the same...

I so far had 40 restarts. Out of all of them. Burgundy AND England both Rivaled me every single time.

Honestly don't care about Burgundy but I wanted to try something with England. Which is now not possible.

Fun fact: In another random game I started as Nevers Austria PU'd England in 1445 leading to a war with France. Which was the main reason for me to start a game as Castile and trying to snipe that England PU :D

I just did 20 rerolls just to see what starting rivals I got.

1. England/Burgundy/France
2. England/Burgundy/France
3. England/Burgundy/France
4. England/Burgundy/Aragon
5. England/Burgundy
6. England/Burgundy/Morocco
7. England/Burgundy/France
8. England/Lithuania/France
9. England/Burgundy/Aragon/Morocco
10. England/Lithuania/Aragon
11. Burgundy/France/Aragon
12. England/Lithuania/Aragon
13. England/Burgundy/Aragon/Morocco
14. England/Burgundy/France
15. England/Burgundy/Aragon
16. England/Burgundy/Aragon
17. England/Burgundy/Aragon/Morocco
18. England/France/Aragon
19. England/Burgundy/France
20. Ottomans/England/Aragon

Did 5 extra that were non-player just to make sure that there's no "anti-player bias".
1. England/Burgundy
2. England/Burgundy/Morocco
3. England/France/Morocco
4. England/Morocco
5. Burgundy/France/Morocco

From that, it's clearly very likely that England and Burgundy will rival Castile at the start, regardless if a player is there or not but it's not guaranteed. To be honest, I remember having something similar in my Castile runs over the years, so I don't think it's anything new.

Regardless, I don't think it matters that much. As long as you don't rival them back and maintain good relations, there's a good chance that England and Burgundy will rival someone else not long into the game, especially if you have a common rival between the two of you. Burgundy especially since you don't share a border (land or sea) at all.

EDIT: Just saw your aim in your newest post. Henry VI dying without an heir and getting PUed is even rarer than not being rivaled at the start with England.

Burgundy didn't rival me for once but england is pretty much guranteed.
If I play Portugal however there are quite a few instances of england not rivaling castile. It is more common then anything.

I honestly continued with my one run and I was hoping aragon would cancel the Rivalry. Nope. They fully embraced it and went republic. No ♥♥♥♥♥. I then proceeded to eat 2/3 of their country in one war.

The entire game gotten so weird in Iberia since the last few patches it's frustrating to see.

If you want you can probably get them to drop you as a rival over time. Improve relations, take some of the same rivals as them, scornful insult. Eventually they should switch rivals. Far from ideal, I know.
For Burgundy at least, it should be easy enough to simply outgrow them so they're no longer capable of rivaling you - the only potential foil being RNG making the Burgundian Inheritance happen too soon, before you've gotten the Iberian Wedding, PU'd Naples, and expanded aggressively into North Africa a bit.

England may be less dependable to do that to overall, but they should be weak enough for a while if they decide to go to war over Maine (since the English AI pretty much only knows how to lose that war hard in the absence of heavy player intervention).
