how to avoid war with superior enemy AI
I've just gotten out of a war so I'm really in no position to fight, and now an AI that is stronger than me (mostly because they allied the strongest country in the area) is trying to take my provinces. Should I just give up half my land or is there anything I can do to avoid this war?

You mostly have to expand in a different direction or have your own alliance network to mostly prevent enemy attacks, but there's no way to be 100 percent sure they won't attack you if they are unfriendly and unable to ally.

I suppose it also doesn't help that I'm a level behind in military tech

Yeah, but some levels are dramatically worse than others. Who are you playing?

Saxony in 233 using ET mod

even if I give them my land how can I be sure they won't declare again after the truce ends?

You can't. Most of us around here aren't really going to be able to help you beyond the basic, only playing Vanilla. ET has it's own rules. There's a reason Saxony doesn't exist today. lol

it's actually not too different from vanilla, at least the way I'm playing it isn't. anyway, the only way I can expand is south, because I have allies to the west and the enemy AI is to the east

The AI takes into consideration your allies, your current strength, and the worth of your provinces.

Ensuring your alliance is stronger than the allies *they can call in* and themselves will generally make them leave you alone. Barring that, making sure you have a large, competent, standing army will also work. Navy can also function as a deterrent, but I'm not sure if landlocked nations will care.

If your allies are weak, or look like they'll decline a call to arms. Find a better one, who *will* function as a deterrent. As much as I tend to feel bad doing this, they're just AI you won't hurt their feelings. Devving your provinces when you have spare MP can also help push up your force limit. As can hiring the +10% force limit advisor, although that's more of a band-aid fix rather than something long term.

Of course making friends with them is also an option. If you can somehow manage to get their relations to 100 they'll get -1 stability on DoW. You and I know that 1 stability is pocket change. The AI likes to treat that as though it's the end of the world. Although it isn't always 100% possible, it's a good route to look into.

Or you can be a chad and raze your provinces all to 1-1-1 so that the AI doesn't see a use in taking them.

I only have just under 2 months upon loading the save before they declare, so I can't get better allies, I have them as a rival, so can't make them an ally, and I'm also not a horde, so can't raze provinces

How superior is this enemy? How badly are you and your allies outnumbered?
Kushcracker May 20, 2023 @ 6:07pm
Hire mercs, take loans, go way over force limit, etc. survive now, recover later.
Arcrom21 May 21, 2023 @ 7:35am
If you simply give them lands they will want more later. Since finding allies is not possible it''s a all nothing here so hire mercs, stay in defensive provinces and get warscore by holding the war goal.
