How do I become an empire as France?

I don't have the common sense dlc, is there anyway for me to become an empire? I have over 1000 development.

You could always become Holy Roman Empire. That automatically gives you Empire rank.

when you start a new game somewhat in the years after 1800 and select france, you have empire rank from the beginning. after you selected france, switch the starting date back to 1444 and you should still be france with empire rank

Depending on whether that mission came as part of the Emperor DLC or not, look at your missions and aim to unify all of France. Once you have control over most of the area and are either the HREmperor or have dismantled it, the reward of one of your missions is to be an Empire by default from now on.

I strongly recommend against doing that. Looking at other start dates causes many bugs and most of them are not immediately obvious. This might ruin your campaign later on. If you still decide to look at other start dates, please mention this every time you post something about your campaign. Any bugs or strange things which you encounter might be caused by looking at the start dates.

This works and gives you empire. Several do it with no ill effects. Might miss out on this or that but works. Can mess up revolution era if anyone makes it that far.

No wonder the game starts and tells me that even if you play for more than a thousand hours, you can get something new. lol
