Can someone explain eyalets?
Do they count as a vassal? So if i get influence ideas, the bonuses are going to apply them?
Do i still get the same tax and manpower whether they are core eyalet or not?
If i want to use them as a vassal to help at wars, is there any point to make them core?

- They count as a vassal
- Eyalets do not take a diplomatic slot
- Core eyalets can not be called to wars.
- Eyalets can sign separate peace deals.

Can they be annexed as a vassal?

Core eyalets can be annexed, eyalets can not.

Are anyone seeing the Ottomans making eyelets? I have played 4 games now with the latest DLC and haven't seen the AI make eyelets.

The AI doesn't know what to do with most of that new system, I've found. There's next to no chance for AI Ottomans to create the Egyptian Eyalet, for instance, because three years of holding Cairo is not something they will do due to the desire to just peace out.

Kind of. I've not seen them manually make any, but they do get the event ones. They had Hungary as an eyalet in my current game (although it only controlled Wallachia, none of actual Hungary), and I saw them make Austria an eyalet in a game they were doing particularly well in.

Eyalets are similar to vassals, however:
1) for liberty desire, they count only their individual strength vs. that of the overlord
2) cost no diplo slot
-> combine 1+2, and you can have a staggering number of loyal eyalets
3) they give you manpower (not just forcelimit)
4) to annex them, they need to be turned into core eyalets first (click of a button, then 10 years wait)
5) they don't automatically get called to war, you need to spend favors (but due to the strength imbalance, you are unlikely to run out - but i prefer to not call them anyway)

They are pretty amazing, got 180gp vassal income in 1490

I'm missing something I fear.

I'm playing Otto on a new game (started yesterday on 1.35.2, now today on 1.35.3).

I took Egypt via the missions and it is now my eyalet.

I declared on Medina (three provinces, borders with Eqypt), which I have claims on (as does Egypt). I now fully occupy them.

Ok, here's the problem:
A - I cannot take any of their provinces ("you have no border")
B - I cannot transfer province to control to Eqypt (though I could to Crimea, my March)

I thought that with 1.35.2 I'd be able to take the provinces, but may have misunderstood. All thoughts appreciated!

You can't transfer provinces to someone who is not in the war.

Of course! I now feel very stupid as I had NOT asked Egypt to join the war.

And I'm assuming that this is also why I can't core them myself, ie. my Eyalet only counts as my border when I'm at war (and they are too).

Thanks Na, that solves it!

Having said that, I now find that I cannot fabricate claims next to my eyalets (eg. on Yemen, which borders my Eyalet Eqypt, but not me).

I thought that the patch notes (1.35.2) said that for these purposes, my eyalets' borders would count as my own? Does this mean that I cannot expand *through* my Eyalets?

(I know that I could Vassalise beyond, but wouldn't be able to Annex such, if I couldn't core).

I think you need to rein them in and make them a Core Eyalet first.

I hope you didn't switch Egypt from core to a regular Eyalet - the mission turns them into a core Eyalet for a reason. If you did, you will likely never find the required points to reign them back in. You don't have to ofc, but still something to keep in mind...

The vassals count as borders for coring purposes (i.e. if you have a connection from your capital through the eyalet to a province, you can core it now). But to fabricate claims, you still need a regular border. However if you mark a province or provinces as "province of interest", you vassals will start to fabricate claims on them if they can.

I had the same issue playing on 1.35.1. If all else falis, try snaking your way south of the Egypt Elayet's border in Arabia. There should be weak nations there going all the way down to Yemen. If the Mamluks ate them, there should still be a group of nations on east and south coast of Arabia (Hormuz, Hadramaut, Aden etc.) Once you hold a province of your own in Yemen, it should be pretty easy to get within coring range of Medina.

If you're going for the Unite Islam achievement, you don't need to own the provinces directly. Those owned by your eleyets also count fpr the achievement.

yeah, i've done a lot of snaking in my time. I generally play European nations (including Otto) and one of my standard strategies is to get cores half way across the world before Age Of Discovery finishes (using the Transfer Subject splendor power) ... and then seeing how far I can get in actually using them before they expire!
