If you're hoping to wage war on them to enforce a union, you also have to hope they don't get an heir. So ideally, you want to maintain a diplomat just improving relations with them to offset the initial loss and keep them happy in the meantime. Or only claim the throne when the heirless ruler is very old and hope he dies before an heir comes along, without breaking the royal marriage or alliance yourself.
I usualy simply truce break, when Im rich on mana, but I do that by the end of reformation

Claim immediately so you are notified when to alt f4. Or claim immediately so that you will always union them should they die without an heir. Even if they hate you and break alliance, the claimed throne will remain there forever until there's an heir. The other day I chose to truce break claim throne and war russia as navarra and it worked out. Claim throne will remain even if they break marriage too.

If you dow them with the union cb and they get a heir while at war, does the force union disappear from the peace offer?
