No, by not giving them money directly means I don't support their current business practices but I do enjoy EU4 very much. If they go bankrupt as a result then I guess they will have to learn from that. I've posted my review back in 2017 and I bought EU4 back in 2013 and paid for only the game changing DLCs, never bought anything in 2016 going forward due to these practices.
You speak with your wallet, sadly many people refuse to stop paying and promoting the deliberate slicing of content to be sold off in little chunks. I work in the game industry and I have seen it all.
As far as I'm concerned I got all this for $17 and gave 90% to a charity and 10% to Humble Bundle as a tip. Win win for me and Humble Bundle. I believe Paradox is doing this to get users up to date with the content so they can topple more DLC and it wont seem as overwhelming if they had to purchase $200+ in content prior to the new content. It's been talked about over and over that getting new players is difficult due to the high entry fee and nobody wants to feel like they're playing a cut-up game, they would prefer the DLC as well. It's also not about charity otherwise there wouldn't be a pre-calculated slider on checkout giving them most of the money.
As one of those originally on the fence, I would like to thank everyone in this thread for making the decision blatantly obvious. Clearly, you should buy the $17 if you know you'd enjoy the game. Better to get it now than to not have the option later. If you're really on the fence about it, 1 dollar isn't going to break the bank. Besides, even if you pay the $1 for the base game, try it for an hour, and immediately decide on the full bundle? A total of $18 is far better than $200 -- that is over 90% discount. The best I've ever seen personally on a Paradox sale is 75%, and you could even pass on the leftover 1 USD to someone else as a gift with your leftover keys.
I second Quill18, watched some of his EU3 videos and thats what got me interested in the franchise. In short, its a Grand Strategy game - not for everyone, but I love the game.
