The problem with running EU4.
I have a problem with EU4, I click start on steam, it loads, does not have time to launch the launcher, as the download stops and the "play" icon appears again, who knows what the problem is?

Could be a launcher problem; have you tried launching directly from the .exe file?

Launcher problems can often be fixed by reinstalling the launcher:
On Windows, first use the windows uninstall function to uninstall "Paradox Launcher v2"(if it is there). And then delete the launcher directories(if they exist):

  • C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
  • C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
  • C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
  • Documents/paradox interactive/.cpatch/
  • every directory in Documents/paradox interactive/ that starts with launcher-v2

In Linux delete the directories ~/.paradoxlauncher and "~/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/" and the file "~/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/launcherpath"

In macOS delete the directory "~/Library/Application Support/Paradox Interactive"

Afterwards you can start the game from steam again to reinstall the launcher.

Does this help?

I can't use the "resume" button because it's stuck on an age old save file that I deleted a long time ago.

Are your newer saves all ironman? The resume button only shows non-ironman saves. But you can either edit the continue_game.json to change it or create a non-ironman save so that it shows up in the launcher and then overwrite the file with your ironman save

Did you find none of these folders? What do you mean by "borrow"? Are you using steam sharing or are you playing a non-steam version of the game?

What happens if you launch dowser.exe, eu4.exe or the launcher installer (they are all in the folder where eu4 is installed)? Do you get any error messages when you do that?

This is my second account, I borrow the game from him, I can't figure out in which folders eu.exe you say. Maybe I'm looking the wrong way?

They are in the folder where steam installed the game. You can open it by right clicking on eu4 in the steam library and selecting manage->browse local files

yes, I found it, launched eu4 and the game started without a launcher, without mods. Also launched 'dowser' nothing happened. After launching Launcher Installer, he suggested that I download Paradox installer v2

That's a good first step. At least eu4 works. That it launches without mods or DLCs is normal when starting eu4.exe directly, unless you manually do what the launcher would normally do.

That message sounds weird. The launcher installer should not need to download something else. Can you post a screenshot of that message? If it is not in english, it could be that the launcher developers made an error when translating it into your language.

sorry, but how to insert a screenshot here?
grotaclas Mar 18, 2023 @ 8:28am
You can upload the screenshot to an image hosting site and post the link here. For game screenshots you can also use the steam screenshot function and then steam will automatically insert a preview if your comment contains the link to a steam screenshot, but you can't really make steam screenshots of the launcher installer.
grotaclas Mar 18, 2023 @ 8:44am
You posted the location of the screenshot on your computer. I don't have access to your computer so I can't look at your files. You have to upload it somewhere on the internet, so that everybody can access it.
You can for example use https://imgur.com
