How to create colonies in Extended Timelines mod after annexing a colony without a previously owned colony in that space?

Basically I'm playing Extended Timelines mod as England (now Great Britain) and I had a huge war with Portugal and took most of their colonial provinces in West Africa. I thought they'd just turn into normal colonial nations but instead they stayed under my direct control and destroyed my overextension to 200% as well as made my country a cesspit of different religions causing Religious Turmoil everywhere. How do I turn these newly acquired territories into colonies instead of directly ruled provinces?

Are the provinces which you conquered in a colonial region in the extended timeline mod? Then you can get a colonial nation there by coring some of the provinces till you have 5 cored provinces in each colonial region*. Then the rest of the provinces in the same reason will be transferred to the new CN.

*I'm assuming that your capital is not on the same continent and that you don't have a land connection between your capital and these provinces and that you never formed a post-colonial nation(e.g. USA, Brazil, Haiti,...) and that the only relevant difference between the mod and the vanilla game is that the mod has colonial regions in Africa

Thanks, yes I am playing Britain with the annexed colonies in Africa. I didn't know you had to core them first, so thanks for clarifying!
