How to lose defender of the faith?
I am playing as England, and I want to convert to protestant to complete the mission tree. Thing is: I am the defender of the faith, and can't convert while I am. How do I lose it? Do I have to wait that a christian nation be attacked and refuse to help?

Or wait for another nation to take the position once they can. When a nation takes the defender of faith it can't be removed for a while (a "cooldown"), that is why I said the "once they can".

This is correct, any peace deal worse than white peace should remove it.

Can't you just take the decision to embrace the counter reformation when it pops up? With the buffs to Catholicism, I'm not sure I would convert if I didn't have to anymore.

Well you don't have to switch to protestant to complete the mission tree for england. You cna just wait for the counter reformation to fire and take the decision instead.

Declining any call to arms also removes it.

Oddly (maybe), I tried declining a call to arms from my Catholic ally Hungary (I am DotF Venice) and I did NOT lose the DotF.

Only works if its a Call to arms against a different religion.

Might even be it only works if its the DotF call to arms and not if you are allied to them and get a normal call to arms, never tested it.
