How to trigger or speed up the reformation
I'm currently confused (seems my normal state regarding this game) as to how, why and when the reformation happens. I'm playing as catholic Finland in the beginning of the 14th century (Extended Timelines mod), and would very much like to become either protestant or reformed.

The current reform desire is 179.6%, I'm in very bad relations with the Papal State... But nothing happens. I can't choose to convert, it only says "There are no potential religions to convert to right now".

Do I basically have to wait until the reformation would normally happen, or the protestant/catholic split of the church, or? (If so, when would that actually be?)

If there's any other information you might need to answer my question, please ask.

Cheers!

I have never played with the extended timeline mod, so I don't know if it works the same as in regular eu4. In regular eu4 the reformation (protestantism) happens at 200% liberty desire and a random (AI) nation turns protestant. After that event it becomes available for other nations to convert.

Wrong, it happens at 100, but as the reformation desire is not tied to a specific date but in vanilla from the game start 1444, starting a game in 2 BC would make the reformation desire be 100 around 60BC. To avoid that there is something else in the events of the mod, though I don't know the file enough to tell you what

Grow of reform desire is set in defines.lua, the specifications of the event are in events => protestant. The needed amount of reform desire can be altered as well as the mean time to happen. I assume they changed the values.

edit: Ah, pretty simple. They added a trigger "is_year = 1450". You won't see the reformation happen befor that, no matter how high reform desire rises.

Thanks! This clears it up for me. So I just have to wait around 150 years and hope the pope doesn't call crusades on my ass until then. :p
