How to let your colonies expand

First of all im new to the game , i have only 15 hours so far and playing on very easy mode.

I colonized a bit late into brazil , next to england , but their colonies have way more land . Did they just settle 10 colonies next to each other or did they just expand to those provincis next to them? If so how do I let my colonies expand , i have 2 now right next to each other but how do i give them more territory?

England likely colonized most of it. Your colonial nation can colonize land on its own but its slow, you can still colonize around your CN and they will get the provence when its finished.

A colonial nation - your subject controlled by AI - will be created once you have colonized 5 provinces in the region. They will start colonizing if they feel wealthy enough I suppose, not right away.

Keep colonizing the region for your CN and eventually they will be able to fund their own colonists and large army.

If you can afford it, send your colonial nation some subsities to help them afford to colonize on their own.
