Playing as Iceland

So I found out through my gameplay as Ireland (when I repeatedly attacked Norway taking their Island provinces) that I could make Iceland a free nation. I became interested in playing as Iceland. So I recently started a game as Norway, destroyed their military and navy, and declared an independance war on Denmark. Saved, then went onto the save as Denmark and attacked Norway and make them free Iceland as a free nation. Then saved and went onto the save and am playing as Iceland.
I am still interested in becoming an empire as Iceland, but I need some tips. Iceland starts wtih 3 units, and a whopping 0.32 income on LOW military maintenence. Since Iceland has no enemies I destroyed their military (temporarily) to gain money. I still only make about 0.83. The only nation/provinces I can make claims on are Norways who are very much larger than Iceland is. I am about to become allied with England, and if not England, then Denmark, hopefully. Any tips on how to progress? :D

Conquer Norway with help from Sweden/England and expand into the Isles/Scandinavia, or wait to colonize and migrate to America.

I can't ally Sweden, or even Scotland. Or anyone. Always get close to a Royal Marriage or such but the "distance from borders" factor ♥♥♥♥♥ me over. Also, Sweden is a vassal of Denmark at the moment, and so is Norway.

So I'm new to this game. Only nation I've really been hella successful with is Ireland. (Started as Kildare, conquered the whole island in 5 years, beat Britain to take Pale, become Ireland in 20 yr.) Made Scotland my rival, then vassal, then annexed, then annexed Iceland and all of Norways islands, then took Britain. Not even out of the 1500's, was able to colonize a bunch of *already* explored areas.
Anyway, still 1400's in this game, and I chose exploration ideas. I have a colonist, but not colonial areas discovered, how do I discover one?

You need the quest for the new world (or something like that) idea unlocked in exploration so you can hire explorers for your ships/units.

I got the idea, and I discovered Greenland and everything, but it's to far away to create a colony.. I have 106 and it requires 308

higher diplo tech and one of the ideas in exploration should do it for you

You could also make a nation called iceland and place it where iceland is?

Iceland is fine by itself, why would you want to expand ? The grass is not greener in Greenland, its whiter
