Independence war - how to get help from other countries

How can you ask other countries to support you in an independence war. I read on the official wiki page that the option to ask for help is under the Alliance actions tab., but here I find only the alliance offer and the form coalition buttons (which are unavailable as a subject nation). Is there a special requirment for that button to become available?

you can form alliances as soon as your declare independence, depending on your reputation, they may, or may not join in. you ally w/ them like normal, then if they accept, open up the diplo page again, and it should say 'Call To Arms' with a tick or X, tick is they'll accept, X is you got shafted.

The "support independence" option is only available if you have the Conquest of Paradise expansion Iirc.

i don't have that expac, i was just assuming it would be similar to the normal call to arms after a war has already started, if it hasn't been more than 60 days, hey should be find w/ joining, but your reputation w/ them would have to be high i would say.

you probably won't have too much trouble, since your on a island, though i can't remmeber where they startout. but i always see them break free in my games. maybe 1/10 i've started they've actually managed to keep them

Naples is an island? News to me.
