Size limit for joing HRE ?

I was playing as Denmark, and when I annexed Holstein I wanted to join my neighbouring provinces Slesvig, Midtjylland and so forth to the Holy Roman Empire. I figured that when I got my capital into the empire, I would be a full member. As one could do it in EU3.

But it said that my 'country is simply too large' or something. So now I'm wondering where that limit actually is?

Does anyone know?

If i remember correctly
- border the hre
- have <=3provinces
- good relation to the emperor

I think the size limit is in relation to the Emperor. Other factors such as military power also have an influence on it.

Being of a different culture group than the Emperor or having another religion (once the reformation started) also makes it more difficult.

With selling of some provinces/releasing vassals it's still possible to add nations like Poland or Denmark to the HRE as far as I know.

no i think it has changed abit. previously u could get Denmark in because u were smaller than Austria (or the current emperor) but now ur land now include Denmark, Holstein, Sweden and Norway. so u are now simply too big.

I believe what he means is that now it counts vassals/pu to some extent.

Also, i believe BaseTax limit for joining is somewhere around 50, but not tested it yet. (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?757522-What-are-the-Join-HRE-mechanics)

Somewhere i also read, that your vassals also counts, but in reduced rate, so it only helps to relase vassals completely.
