Privateer event: Merchants call for trade protection war

I just can't figure out this event. I've declared a trade protection war on several nations under the trade protection CB, but I just can't seem to activate the promise I made. Do I need to have won the trade war to fulfill the promiss and get the merchants off my back or am I just declaring war on the wrong nations? If so how do I find them?

The last event of that chain is as such:

Trigger:

Has the country modifier "Merchants Prepare for War"
Has the country flag "promised_merchants_war"
Is at war

Any country:

• Our country:
  
• Has the Trade Protection casus belli against the previous scope
  
• At war with the previous scope

Base mean time to happen of 1 day


To fulfill your promise, you thus need to:
Have made th promise (modifier and flag)
Be at war, with the trade protection CB against any country

The actual reward is just a dialogue box that removes the flag without negative consequences.

Yeah I figured something like that, but for some reason even after using the Trade Protection CB to declare war I receive a new reminder event some time later reminding to remind me of my promise as if it weren't fulfilled.

Are you certain you used Trade Protection and not Trade Conflict? The former is caused by pirates the latter by relative trade power in a node and requires some espionage points.

Made the same mistake my first time too.:)

I believe you will need a merchant in the trade node for both of these - I know you definitely need one for the trade protection. Need to be careful as sometimes they pirate, you get the event and then they stop pirating removing the CB but the event remains.

If there is no piracy at all in all the trade nodes where you have a merchant and 10% of power then you should have an option that states "Privateering has decreased. We no longer have a reason to go to war".

To trigger the last part of the event, you only need to be at war with proper CB, the target isn';t stated, so if your first target stopped pirating, but another one, somewhere else takes its place, don't hesitate to still go for your war.
