Avoiding Seppuku as a Daimyo
Trying a run as Oda following some of the guides out there and I keep ending up in a Regency Council and unable to declare war because Ashikaga keeps suiciding my ruler and queen regent long before my heir comes of age. Staying at war and being above 50% liberty desire don't help at all. Anyone have any advice?

Advice? Dont play Oda.

The AI rarely forces Seppuku, apparently it really loves to do it once you play Oda.
But that idea set, though...
Think I figured it out: Trick seems to be to only take claims and keep Ashikaga's AE with you below about 30. Another thing I was doing wrong was peacing out allies for land, making that land not counted under the -50% AE Sengoku CB. Also kept Ashikaga RM'd and at 200, destroying the Woku helps with this for the +50 relations to everybody.

Getting claims on everything's pretty easy if you do Hostile Trading in the Nippon node and cycle rivals, too. Rival, spy, claim, eat, repeat.

Successfully took half the island this way by 1560 and have claims on just about everything else except Kyushu now, and never got Seppuku'd once, Ashikaga's still at +200 and only 22 AE. Taking a couple year break to build your manpower and burn off WE then I'm pretty much set to take the rest in about two or three relatively easy wars.

If your lib desire is over 50% they cant do it. So if u can grow quick enough, maybe insult him to reduce opinion etc you shouldnt need to take many seppuku's.
Just build over force limit, go in debt, declare on emperor, become emperor, problem solved. Easy.

Trying to eat most of Japan first because diplo-annexing the island takes too long.

Well, Ashikaga Seppukus me no matter what. Usually during/after the first war for the first province so it cant really be AE.

Still managed to get get Japan by 1500 thanks to a Queen Regency.

Note that Ashikaga can actually force Seppuku even on humiliating a rival

Really? What were your Ashikaga relations?

Since its during the first war: Not that high

There is usually an opportunity for a war in less than 5 years, not much time to improve anything.
Hmm. My starting order was Ally Yamana, RM+improve with Ashikaga+claims on Kitbatake, take Kitibatake then claims in Hosokawa and Tokugawa, then attack Tokogawa with Hosokawa as a co-belligerent promising Yamana land. After that I had 5 provinces including Setsu for the CoT and didn't have any major issues from there. Hosokawa was out, beat up Uesugi, so no other majors my size except my ally Yamana. Kept Yamana as an ally right up to the end when they rivalled me, then ate them, too. Just did rival, justify, eat on everybody else then finally took the Shogunate in about 1475ish and had everything but two Shimazu and Yamana provinces.

With rivals, Hostile trading and the rumor event that gives you +25% spy network construction as an option claiming up the whole island is a breeze, and saves a lot of paper and bird mana in the long run. Currently beating up Korea (who allied Ainu, lol) for Jeju, gold, war reps and trade power (don't want any mainland land to control institution spread, developed Renaissance early and am shooting for Colonialism).

Only thing I'd change if I did it again is not focusing Military and doing Admin instead because I'm behind on Admin tech from all the cooking and swimming in sword Mana, which was a dumb move on my part.
