But then one six pointed star does, indeed, look pretty like any other, And Solomon was a Jew, Oh and it was nasty old and, thank God, dead Adolph that inexorably linked Jews to the six pointed star,

Reclamation projects like that are fairly standard, I'd imagine.

That would be why I said inexorably linked. I don't know if it would have been used as such had dirty old adolph not used it as a badge of shame in the 1930's.

Of course he was, right alongside Adam and Jesus Christ.

Amusingly, if there was ever an Islamic Dante, he'd probably agree with Brian. Look at the First Circle, for a prime instance.

Yes, the word anachronism is completely lost on most Muslims.
grognardgary Jun 12, 2022 @ 6:26pm
Nope Solomon was a ninth century BC Jewish King he is considered a prophet as well in all three Abrahamic religions. You're confusing him with either Saladin or Suleiman given the sobriquet magnicent. There is no Muslim faith prior to the early 7th century AD.
Narrowmind Jun 12, 2022 @ 6:37pm
That's why I mention anachronism. They really like to say every single biblical figure was a Muslim all the way back.

Nah, the just loudmouth ones you get in any religion. Brings the whole faith into disrepute. And I say that as the kind of militant atheist who'd've signed up with the No-No Germans or "Holy Hell Are You Paranoid" Hoxha back in the day.

I'm not really sure what you're meaning. The Koran really does refer to those figures, so then they say naturally, they were Muslims. It's not only the loudmouth ones.
RCMidas Jun 12, 2022 @ 6:46pm
The Testaments and Torah also refer to a number of figures who are not themselves assumed to be Jewish. Same principle here. The prophets prior to He Who Must Not Be Depicted are generally said to have been preparing the masses for the Big Mo.

EDIT: It gets even more entertaining when you look at the Sikhs and the Baha'i.

It's not the same principle if Muslims aren't the same. They are the opposite. As a Christian, I'm not saying Solomon was Christian. When a Muslim says "the prophet Solomon, peace be upon him," that is a Muslim identifier. They don't refer to these figures in a neutral sense - they simply claim them for themselves, and if they actually believe the Koran, then they are right to do so.
