Austria EU 4 Achievement Questions
I am looking at doing an Austria -> HRE -> all mission tree done achievement run.

I had a nice than usual stroke of luck with PUs and doing well so far. I manage to inherit both sides of Burgundy, for instance, and I have Poland, Lithuania, Bohemia, and Hungary as PU subjects. I manage to get and keep Northern Italian under HRE control, plus Pope.

I think I won't have to deal with a Protestant League as I already crushed two CoRs, and I don't remember if I dealt with the third one or not. I am going to move on with the assumption that I did.

I am seeing a few missions that I don't know how to best complete: Mainly "The Ostend Company" - at least one Trade Company, "Holdings in India" - Have Trade Company in West Indian, Coromandel, East Indian, and Indonesian charters with five provinces, "The Riches of China" - Strongest trade power in either Canton or Hangzhou trade node, and finally "Settle Australasia" - CN in Australia.

Would it make more sense to try to go for a PU (primarily Portugal/Spanish) which satisfies the missions above or do it myself?

Can I go with only the expansion idea group by itself, or would it be better to have both expansion and exploration idea groups?

The main issue is that I have many subjects that use up my diplomatic monarch points. Far more than I like, and I still need to manually integrate Hungary to move through some of the missions (mainly secure Croatia, which requires you to own provinces directly, which are all under Hungary's control at the moment).

No matter how I look at it. It is going to consume a lot of diplomatic monarch points somewhere somehow.

Here is my current diplomatic map situation.

Being over the relations limit is fine, Diplo points are the least useful of the 3 monarch points unless you want a naval oriented gameplay which you’re not gonna do as Austria whobhas barely a coastline.

PUing Portugal and Spain is better since they already have a head start, their national ideas give them colonidation bonuses and they probably already unlocked both Exploration and Expansion

If you go just Expansion, how will you discover Terra Incognita? Or fire Explorers and Conquistadors?

Only Expansion is viable if you are playing in South East Asia where uncolonised provinces are already discovered

There is no need for Exploration or Expansion. Just PU the nation who has a CN in Australia and charter company your way to China.

Its still quite early into the game though, so no need to do that now. Can easily be done after 1700. Focus on getting the vassal swarm first to get into the position of being godlike.

I did it with Expansion, myself. I conquered my way southeast through the Ottomans, Mamluks, and Arabia and on into India. Then I stole maps from either Spain or Portugal (can't remember which) to find Indonesia and Australia.

Lots of different approaches can work. Austria is a powerhouse.

I'm fairly certain those missions will require you to directly own the tc provinces so if you choose to go the PU route you need to do it early enough to integrate the PU afterwards. The same applies to getting a cn in Australia, your subject having a cn won't count. Personally I'd just conquer stuff for it (buy a landing point with the charter trade company interaction first so yoiu don't have to worry so much about a navy).
Spain typically gets to Australia first anyway, so just PU'ing them relatively early on (since you can easily give them your dynasty via the "A Strategic Marriage" event) then integrating them later should be enough for the CN there. As above, the rest can be done by simply buying provinces off whatever natives are around via the "Charter company" interaction, daisy chaining your way to India and then using a charter province there as a landing point for a proper invasion. You might start off with very little coastline early on, but before too long you should be owning the entire east Italian and Balkan coastlines, so naval force limit shouldn't be too huge of a problem beyond the early game.

The most important thing is to make sure that you don't fully unite the HRE before finishing Austria's mission tree if you're going for the "A.E.I.O.U." achievement - the Holy Roman Empire tag has its own separate mission tree (sharing most of its mission branches with the Germany mission tree), and will block you out from earning the achievement for Austria.
