Converting to Norse by Zealot event question
I just had the event from the Norse zealots. They spawned in Iceland, and I let them convert most of my country. However, I cannot flip to their religion for some reason. Any idea how I can flip to norse with these zealots?

Wait until 50%+ of your entire development is Norse, then you can accept rebel demands to change religion. Even if most of your provinces are Norse, but their development is so low that more than 50% is still not Norse, the rebels will not be able to demand the change.

Most (or maybe all) pagan rebels don't allow you to negotiate with them unless you are pagan. So you need to let them enforce their demands by either occupying your capital for two years or letting them break your country. But make sure that their demands actually include that your state religion changes. For this norse needs to have more dev than any other religion in your country. It can be less than 50% if you have more than two religions

Forgot about the 50% thing just being if it's two competing religions, and not more.

Interestingly, the earlier restriction on Animist-only conversion was supposedly mostly lifted. Now it's intended to be just the three "inherently" primitive religions of Nahuatl, Mayan and Incan which cannot be rebel-converted if you aren't already Animist (or at least pagan, I've not tested that).

Things like Fetishist and Totemist now can convert via rebels even if you're Abrahamic or Buddho-dharmic, so I wonder if maybe there was an oversight in allowing Norse rebels also to do this.

Thank you all for mentioning this. Perhaps indeed I do not have more than 50% dev that is Norse. Which tab/where can I check that? Also, if I try to press: accept demands, it says: is not pagan. Does that mean I need to be pagan? Or does that mean I should just let them break through, and that I won't have that problem anymore?

Unless it's a new and silent addition, you can't check it. The ledger can tell you how many provinces have the religion, and I think on a separate tab it can list the development of provinces (?maybe?) but otherwise you must calculate it manually.

I'm guessing that Norse got overlooked when it came to the pagan religions now being rebel-convertible. Or you just have a bug, or a mod is causing conflict. I'll see if I can't test it out myself later.

So, I just ran a couple of quick tests. Apparently rebel conversion is still not an option for non-Animist pagans. Which is irritating, because I saw that change listed in the changelog. Lemme try and find it.

EDIT: OK, fine, I misread the damned thing. Non-Animist pagans (except Nahuatl, Mayan and Incan) can BREAK your country and FORCE you to change religion if they are the majority religion. You CANNOT accept their demands unless you are already a pagan however.

So in answer to your question, you just have to wait until they break your country after having become the majority religion in it. Let them keep sieging you down and only go to unsiege their occupied provinces if they seem to be prematurely ready to break you.

You can use https://pdx.tools to analyze your save and see all kinds of data, including the development of the religions.

You can either break to all rebels(if > 50% of your provinces and at least one fort are occupied by any rebel) or you can let the norse rebels enforce their demands by letting them occupy your capital for 2 years.

Norse rebels are basically unchanged in 1.34. They already had the ability to force convert non-pagans in previous versions.

It was actually just a case of me misunderstanding what the change was. I didn't even know that the Norse could force-convert non-pagans prior to this patch because I automatically lumped them in with the other non-Animists in my head.

They have my capital. So I guess I will wait until they have it for 2 years.

But make sure that their demands already include that your state religion changes. Otherwise they don't have enough development yet

Hi Grotacias and everyone else. Thank you SO much for all your help! So I did it! I was broken by zealots twice. The first time I guess I didnt have enough dev owned by Norse. The second time, they broke out, and they went to enforce demands very quickly. Once it happened then, they actually changed my religion (I did not expect it, cause when I checked, it didnt say that my state religion would change). But they did break it again the second time and I was super surprised cause it said I turned Norse!:):) I did it, and thanks to all of you!
