Switching to vassal
Hi,

I know I can switch to play as vassal when I create new one using my own territory, but is there any way to switch to playing as vassal that I already have as a vassal? Asking for Ironman of course.

Annex them fully, then choose to release and play as them.

Does that invalidate achievements?

ok, but is there anyway to control their borders? If I give them land before doing that, will that land still belong to newly formed country?

Im looking for easy way to form Rome from Byzantium, and I was hoping to vassal Byz as Otto, give them all European lands of Otto and go from there. Is it doable?

Not for the BYZ achievement as it requires starting the game as BYZ.

(as for the other question, the vassal will get all of their core provinces when you release them so if doing the annex/release you need to make sure they finish coring anything you want them to have once released before annexation completes)

It depends on the specific achievement. Many require you to start the game as a certain nation, others require you to not change nation (other than formations), others actually require this sort of thing as that is the only way to play the required tag.

All you'd really be able to do is give them all their cores back which is pretty much the coastline from Constantinople to the Morea region and the lands in between because you have to choose to play as the newly released vassal AS your releasing them, so there is no opportunity to give them additional land after releasing them as you would end up playing as them, the instant they are released.

You "might" be able to work around that by vassalizing byzantium first, then granting them as much land as you can, wait for them to core all the newly given land, then wait the 10 years before you can annex them and also ud need to be able to get their relations up to 190 which could take even longer then the 10 year wait since you would have the huge opinion malus of force vassalizing them through war.

Then you'd have to wait the additional time it would take to annex such a huge nation , then finally release them to play as.

I dont know for sure if doing all that would actually work though as ive never done all that myself

Which achievement?

Basileus
As Byzantium, restore the Roman Empire.

This is the one I'm talking about. If you mean Mare Nostrum that's actually allowable (although it'd likely be less hassle to start as the Ottomans and convert to Orthodox).

The steam descriptions of an achievement is not much better than flavor text in many cases. If you want better information about the achievements, have a look at the achievements list in the wiki[eu4.paradoxwikis.com]. The "Starting conditions" column specifies what you need to start as(in addition to the requirements for most achievements which are listed on the top of the page). And the "Completion requirements" column lists the conditions that you have to fulfill at the moment that you get the achievement.
