you just have to capture them in battle from your enermys
FLAGSHIP_REQUIRED_NAVY_SIZE_IN_SAILORS = 1500, -- The number of sailors employed in the navy required to unlock the flagship
FLAGSHIP_COST_DUCATS = 100, -- The cost in ducats of a flagship
FLAGSHIP_COST_SAILORS = 300, -- The cost in sailors of a flagship
FLAGSHIP_BUILDTIME = 730, -- Building time in days of a flagship
FLAGSHIP_MAX_MODIFICATION = 3, -- Maximum number of modifications on a flagship
FLAGSHIP_MORALE_HIT_ON_DESTRUCTION = 1.0, -- Morale hit when the flagship is destroyed
But you don't get the flagship modification bonuses - nbr of guns, hullsize, num of sailors, and maintenance cost is the same as any other heavy ship. Only thing different is that the flag of the country you captured it from is shown in the display flag. So I don't understand what the point of capturing them is. And once you capture the flagship of an enemy country are they allowed to build another flagship?
Capturing flagships is basically just style points. Collecting the flagships from all of your defeated foes is fun, and on the actual capture you are denying them their flagship until they rebuild it, and doing a modest prestige exchange, but there isn’t any real meaning beyond that (nor do I really think there needs to be, otherwise maxing out capture and grabbing 5 flagships would make you unstoppable)
Before editing any files I recommend making backup copy first or you could break the game.
Find your EU4 install folder, usually something like
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Europa Universalis IV\"
Now you want to go into common folder inside EU4 and look for file named "defines.lua". This can be edited with any text editor, Notepad or similar. Open it and search for
"-- flagship-related defines".
Does anyone know if this turned out to be the case ?
One of my quite minor disappointments with the game was the restriction to one flagship.
No , not because I want a line of 50 flagships.
I was always a big fan of Carracks . So invariably even when I have just one decent coastal province and a grand total of five ships , I would build a Carrack , name it Carolana after a favorite mistress of my ruler , build a whole little story around that boat.
I'm even in the process of assembling the parts to make up a picture of it in GIMP.
By 1520 Carracks are already woefully outdated though.
If I could build more than one though , I would park it permanently in port when it becomes obsolete.
It always made me sad when I had to upgrade my original Carrack flagship.
If you can capture enemy flagships... but they don't provide any bonus if they are of foreign origin...
I guess maybe you could let someone capture yours, build another one, then recapture the first.
That aside, max_flagships has been added to 00_static_modifiers.
