What are you hoping to achieve? European superpower? Colonial overlord? Conquer North Africa?

There are couple of clear paths:
- ally France if you do not want to fight them
- ally Portugal if you do not want to conquer them
- make Navarra your vassal
- wait for Iberian Wedding
- conquer Granada

Ah, well luckily, Castile is one of the strongest countries in the game with huge potential. I suggest the easiest route - ally France (at the very start, before unpausing) and conquer Portugal. There is good chance for Iberian Wedding event to give you both Aragon and Naples for free under PU so no need to fight them directly.

You should be strong enough to take out Granada when their North African allies are busy in other wars. I recommend not to conquer land in North Africa from Morocco and Tunis, these will only cause rebels. Instead, take Exploration (first) and Expansion idea groups and go west. You should be only country for some time able to discover New World (after you kill off Portugal) and colonize it.

New Player:
=Ally France by Improving Reputation then do the same w/ Aragon&Naples for Personal Unions then Royal Marriage all
=Take out Portugal/Navarro/Granada, take em all out ASAP
=Relax, learn what buildings to make, collect gold, learn trade/economic mechanics
=Get Exploration Idea, Explore then Colonize, learn colonization mechanics
=Maybe feel confident and take Africa
=Learn and have fun, play all the through your first time and experience all the ages

France is also a great option to start with

You dont have to conquer Portugal if you have the DLC, you can get a PU with missions.

Day 1 start building a spy network on both england and portugal. Ideally you want to declare on england and co-beligerize portugal. But often times the 100 years war has fired and france is already seiging down england's fort to your north, meaning you can't get it. In that case declare on portugal and call in england. In your peace deal make sure you take a chunk out of portugal, I usually take the northern half of him, and Pale in ireland. Now you have weakened portugal and have a foothold in ireland.

Begin fabricating on all the irish minors. As quickly as you can eat them all. Then attack scotland the second france wont defend him. After that, eat england. Portugal is easy to finish off. Now you've just neutralized the two main colonizers you have to compete with.

In the beginning, before you do anything, disinherit your heir. Then once you get a new heir, do everything you can to kill your king. Make him a general and have him sit on seiges. While at peace, have him drill. Try to force a queen consort onto your throne to get the iberian wedding.

After that the world is your oyster. Just nibble at england every 15 years. Take as much land as AE will allow since the HRE gets pissy about it, and war reps and all his money. A long truce timer is ideal since you need AE to tick down anyway, So just take a few provinces and punch him for money. By 1600 you'll own all of the british isles and the only colonizers you'll have to deal with are france and maybe brittany. But you'll have the iberian wedding by then and they wont stand a chance.

As with any nation, be as aggressive as you can. When not fighting england or portugal, attack Africa. Take all of morocco. There's a gold mine there. There are ELEVEN gold mines in Africa and 4 of them can be grabbed rather early on. Mali has 2 in his capitol state with nice dev. Grab it the second you have your first colony in Africa. And there's a third just a few provinces to the east. There are 5 more down by kilwa and 2 more by Ethiopia. As you expand your trade companies around the coast of Africa. Snag those gold mines. I've had about 100 ducats a month coming in just the African gold mines. Just make sure you state them and dev the production up to 10. If it depletes, you can just dev it back up again. And then obviously work your way into India and the Malacca region and get all the juicy trade income.

I'm not going to add any breath-taking revelations in here, and am far from as good as the others here, but I can surely find one or two things:
-Step 1: disinherit your heir. Absolute first thing to do. Prestige will come back up soon enough. Years sitting with 0/0/0 MP will not.
-Ignore Aragon as much as possible; it's likely that Aragon will rival you, but the iberian wedding is quite guaranteed to happen (all it takes is a queen -even a queen consort- ruling to have great odds of it happening every month). Don't waste time, MP and manpower conquering territory from someone you're going to inherit anyway.
-Assuming you're colonizing (why wouldn't you with Castille): neuter Portugal. Conquer it entirely (most simple solution), or just take what you want from it. Good thing if that if Portugal lives, it's going to spam colonies, steer trade back to you, and be a pushover. So steal colonies from Portugal, and if you shook it hard enough, soon your colonial nations will be able to conquer the portuguese ones by themselves as soon as they form. If you dominate the portuguese colonies, surely you'll have no issues with the other colonial nations appearing later.
-Now where to conquer? First thing is dominating the Sevilla trade node, so beat up Granada, just make sure they don't have many more allies than you do (mind: allies that actually join them in a war, so if Morocco is already busy, you're likely free to wipe them off). Then I'd say conquer lands where you can steer trade back to you, so I'd rather focus my efforts south rather than north, but do keep an eye on France/England in their wars. You don't want the victor to grow too strong and be angry at you.

After that, if you're feeling strong enough that you think conquering some french land will make a nice addition to your empire, you likely have made enough progress to know how to proceed by then.

If ur new to eu4 I wouldn't recommend castille until you've gotten the hang of the games mechanics first. The best nation in my opinion for new players is portugal. They start off small and poor but very quickly become fairly overpowered. I know many will recommend castille for new players but castille has a little bit of a learning curve. Portugal is pretty straight forward. Ally castlle. end your alliance with england so you don't get forced to fight france. Colonize and conquer Africa and then india/asia. Your alliance with castille will keeps you relatively safe. Take expansion and exploration as your first two ideas. From there its pretty easy. Castille is more complicated. You start bordering France and aragon who are almost always hostile. Aragon sometimes attacks if he allies france.

I would watch some guides and lets plays on youtube, focus on learning the games mechanics. If you stick with castille, don't be afraid to restart if something bad happens. Which tends to happen early game with castille sometimes

If you have the Golden Century DLC you can pretty much leave Portugal alone (warn Morocco so they wont try to take Ceuta) until you get the mission that gives you a claim for the throne.

They'll take care of Brazil and the Caribbean while you colonize North America or secure India.

They might.

2 things to remember when looking at the Ottomans:

- they are quite far away. They probably do not want to transport troops over the sea, specially when Castile has good navy, and land route through half the Europe is blocked by countries hating Ottos. All you have to do is to occupy Granada and wait, do not even try to go fight Ottos

- they tend to get involved in multiple wars same time. Once they have some land occupied in other war, they may refuse to help Granada at all. Check the declaring war screen, hover over the Ottos to see how much they want to join your war. Learning to start wars when enemy is weak and enemy allies are busy is one of the fundamental skills in EU4
