- Do you plan many conquests? Or are you content with Italy (and maybe some more provinces around the Mediterranean)?
- Do you like to play with subjects?
- Do you want to dominate the Mediterranean Sea or the coasts around it?
- Do you want to colonize mid/lategame? (Earlygame is probably not an option for the Papal States)
- Do you want to use (or even rely) on Mercenaries? Do you want an extremely strong army or an army just strong enough to achieve your goals?
- Do you want a strong fleet?
Who the fk would pick economic in Singleplayer...? In ITALY...?!?
i do, why, is that a matter to you ?
Anyone. I pick economic ideas in every game I play. Usually my first idea if im not Castile or Portugal.
Not anyone. Economic is an ok group if you're playing tall, but not if you're a serious blobber. Blobbers like myself prefer Administration, Diplomacy, Influence, Religious or Humanist, and Exploration/Expansion (for colonial powers). I find that boosting my economy through conquest is far more cost effective than boosting it through the Economic idea group. Trade is another favorite--even with TC's and colonial nations, I can always use more and better merchants. Economy just doesn't cut it compared to those.
Depends on the run & goals maybe? If your goal is to get tons of money through trade and production the policy with trade-ideas is alright. But if you play a nation with gold-mines, especially several, that inflation reduction alone makes it worth it.
But anyway screw meta... Just pick what sounds like fun
