Colonies become a nation?
I made a few colonies and they suddenly formed their own nation? I mean it still says they are my colonies, but the nation is controlled by AI now and I can't do anything other than diplomatic stuff. Wtf? All time and ducats spent ended up them getting independent?... Please help.

It's actually better that way when you think about it. Sure, you don't have control over the land directly, but by having a colony govern itself, that means you can focus on stuff back in your home continent, the puppet state will manage itself by making it's own army and developing the land as time goes by, they'll even fight alongside you too.

If you still want full control though, I can't help you with because I don't know how to do that, but hopefully my information helps as an alternative.

It's better this way. They'll have some autonomy, be loyal to you, help you in wars, manage their own military without taking up your resources, each colony will have the same colonists as you, giving you 2 or even 3 colonists (used by the colonial nation), expanding their territory further. Also giving you a sweet cut of their monthly income.
It requires you to do very little to manage them and they become powerful allies.

There's no "help", it's part of the game.
If you really don't want them, you can choose to release them as an independent nation, then attack and reconquer them later. Thought any new 5 colony provinces will form another nation again.

If you want to know more about colonial nations, have a look at the wiki[eu4.paradoxwikis.com], especially https://eu4.paradoxwikis.com/Colonial_nation#Other_bonuses_and_penalties

As soon as you own 5 province in same colonial region they form colonial nation(CN) and become your colonial subject

Go play a modded version with no colonial nations, or worse yet no overseas autonomy. You will see that the game ends up very unbalanced and it just becomes about a race to colonize as the ultimate objective.

However, I always thought the 5 province rule was too arbitrary. It should reflect more on total development compared to yours, and maybe introducng "colonial nation desire" as a new variable. You could have estates arguing pro and for too. Just some thoughts.

They aren't really "independent", they're basically just a vassal that can't be integrated but doesn't take up a diplomatic relations slot. There are several benefits to colonial nations, in large part the fact that they will continue colonizing the area around themselves on their own without using up your colonists, allowing you to focus your efforts somewhere else. They give a significant portion of their monthly income directly to you, on top of maintaining their own armies/navies and being automatically called into any war you get involved in. I believe the entirety of their trade power is also transferred to you (though they won't automatically steer trade back to your capital, you still need to use your own merchants).

The only real downside is that you'll need to prevent their Liberty Desire from getting too high, which basically just means Improving Relations with them now and then while trying not to impose too many tariffs or too much Absolutism. Unless they try and declare an independence war, they're still making you money.
And now the OP disappear once they know the problem lies on their lack of knowledge rather than actual bug, how typical.

dude relax hes prob a super new player who just did colonies for the first time and was very confused EU4 is a pretty hard game to learn and not a lot is explained in the tutorial
(coalitions/AE? nope how trade works? nope how combat works? nope how making colonies works? nope (i mean sure they say how to put one down but they tell you nothing after that) and a lot more how PUs/vassals work, how forts work (in fact this one is NEGATIVE as there is a tip saying "put a fort in every state' which is really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dumb and i have no idea why it exists)

Personally I feel like it's pretty self-explanatory when the game a) lets you name the newly formed colonial nation yourself, b) usually includes your own country's name as an adjective in said nation's "default" name, and c) if you're Catholic, has a popup directly stating that you now have sole colonization rights to that region amongst other Catholic nations at the same time as the CN forms.

so what? as i mentioned before the tutorial says nothing about how vassals/PUs/subjects in gen work so even if people figure out it has something to do with them seeing a nation take all of your colonies in your first game making colonies is going to be pretty confusing for most new players

my problem is not how noob they are (everyone is at one point including me), but the lack of manners.

The OP pointing that how the game seems "buggy" but many people answer even giving them tips yet no acknowledgement, thank you or even just sticking an answer.
