Are Stryrian provinces bugged for releasing vassal?
Today I had a situation when I wanted to release Styria as a vassal from a province where their core sholud expire in few years (but at that moment it was still valid), but I was unable to do so. Styria was not even appearing in the 'release vassal' menu. After another war with Austria I took more of their provinces and this time I was able to create Styria, but only within those provinces with cores that would expire in about 100 years. Not sure if it is a bug or just 1k hours is not enough to not be surprised by this kind of things... ;D

(on the screenshot you've got those provinces that were unavailable in case of releasing Styria marked with red outline).

It's because those provinces are of the wrong culture. Regardless of where they have cores, you can only release a nation as a vassal if at least one of the provinces you're releasing them from has the same culture as that nation's primary culture. In your particular case, Styria's primary culture by default is Austrian, whereas the provinces you have outlined in red are of Venetian or Slovenian culture. At least one province you own would have to both have Austrian culture and a Styrian core in order to release Styria as a vassal.

In the second case, what probably happened is that Styria's cores on those southern provinces expired (cores of a non-existing nation that are of a different culture group than its Primary Culture only last for 50 years, whereas cores in the same culture group last for 150), in which case they would simply not get those provinces when you release them as a vassal, since they are no longer considered cores.

Same culture group, it doesn't have to be the same culture.
