EU4 launch problem

When I try to play game, after loading screen and before UI appearance game crashes. I think this is, because Epic Games patch. Let me know if you also have this problem.

You can right click on eu4 in the steam library, click on properties and then on "local files" and then on "browse" to get to the folder which contains eu4.exe

In that case you have to to (re-)install the correct version of the microsoft visual c++ redistributables. You can get the latest version from this website[support.microsoft.com] or directly download the installer from this link[aka.ms]. There is an arm version(ARM64), a 32bit version(x86) and a 64bit version(x64). Current eu4 versions only need the 64bit(x64) version. If you already tried this you didn't download the x64 version from the section "Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022" or you didn't install it properly after downloading it or something went wrong with the installation.

I am unable to launch my game as well. When I try and start with steam I get a small red triangle next to the play button and a failure message. Am unable to start with the eu4.exe file as well.

Something is seriously messed up with the last update. No changes at all with PC and not running any mods

What exactly happens if you start it from eu4.exe? Do you get any error message?

I was get the same error message as barteaua - I click the link you provided and that address issue for me - thanks. Looking at some posts you are not even part of Paradox tech support - if so you the man for help people out

I'm not sure if I understand you. The game works now, but you want to use mods and those mods don't work? Are the mods activated in the "Playsets" section of the launcher? In which way don't they work? Do they crash the game? Or do they have no effect at all?

It is normal that DLCs don't work when opening eu4.exe directly. Did you do that, because I said so? I only suggest to start eu4.exe to find out what the problem is when the launcher says "launching the game failed". It is not meant as a permanent solution. Do still get the red triangle with the message "launching the game failed" when you try to start eu4 from the launcher? If you still get that message and starting from eu4.exe works, that means that the problem is related to the launcher. Usually it is one of the following problems:

• you configured the game to run as administrator, but the launcher doesn't run as administrator. In that case disable the option to run the game as administrator
  
• you have an antivirus or ransomware protection software that prevents the launcher from writing its files. In that case you have to add the launcher(and eu4) to the exception list of your software
  
  • If you have Windows Defender(also called Microsoft Defender), add the launcher and eu4 to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list(here[docs.microsoft.com] are instructions for that).
    
  • If you have bitdefender, add the launcher and eu4 to the list of ransomware exceptions and "give it access" to "protected files".
    
  • If you have avast, you have to add the launcher and eu4 to the allowed list in the ransomware shield
• the launcher installation is broken. That can be can often be fixed by reinstalling the launcher:
  
  • On Windows, first use the windows uninstall function to uninstall "Paradox Launcher v2"(if it is there). And then delete the launcher directories:
    
    • C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
      
    • C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
      
    • C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
      
    • Documents/paradox interactive/.cpatch/
      
    • every directory in Documents/paradox interactive/ that starts with launcher-v2
  • Afterwards you can start the game from steam again to reinstall the launcher.

It is not a good idea to just download a dll file from the internet. Maybe it is broken and causes your mod problem. Please try to remove the dll file again and install the visual c++ redistributables from the microsoft website like I explained in this comment. Are you then able to start the game from the launcher? And if it starts, do your mods work then?
