Btw. Sunset Invasion at the time I was doing(doesn't work anymore ;) ) was all about blocking Bermuda and european nations had no chance at all. ;>
Edit: Nowadays you need to embrace feudalism which is even worse(tbh waaaay worse) if you do not exploit it. :>
Good news then. I delayed my Reformations until i had a good enough economy/force limit/development to be able to rush through all of them in about 20-30ish years. I'm roflstomping the Civil War rebels like there's no tomorrow. Very costly on the Stability hits though. I'm currently at my fourth one, very close to the fifth. So soon to pump out Boaty McBoatfaces. =)
Yeah, I read that somewhere. I have no clue how Institutions work, especially for "primitive" nations. I hope I'm not gonna get screwed by something I overlooked. I'm bordering New Granada (Castile) to the north and I have 3/4 Institutions already Present in every bordering province. And it's spreading.
After that hit the magic "reform religion" button and you will get all institutions and extra tech levels. And remember - you cant embrace institutions before reform. Even if they present in your provinces
