Colonialism Institution Asia
I found a lot of discussion but it's very confusing. I'm playing as Majapahit and i want to embrace colonialism. Does Australia count for the new world colony? London is the first colonial centre in my game, does this have anything to do with me if i want colonialism? I don't want to force development again (i did it for Renaissence)

To embrace colonializm you need exactly colony in SA or NA. Australia doesn't count.
Actually the easiest way for you is to explore North American coast, conquer tribes in California colonial region( there should be 3-4 of them if they don't migrate from the coast) and then colonize there 1-2 additional provinces to get 5 of them or conquer anyone in Mexico. As soon as you get colonial nation there you will get exploration ticking in all your provinces and will embrace it pretty fast.
Also if you want to spawn exploration institution in your land in next playthrough you need to explore again not Australia but America. The fastest way is to get to Alaska.

This is the requirement to spawn the Birthplace of Colonialism, not to embrace it. Embraceing is always 10% of dev has to have it present and you have to pay the dosh.

As for OPs question, i'm not certain about the triggers to grow colonialism on top of my head but you can find out in the tech screen submenue for institutions.

You need a colony in the new world to spread it in your country ports.

You need a colonial nation in the new world aka 5 provinces in a single colonial region.

you either need a colonial nation in North/south America (causes your ports and capital to generate it), have ports in trade range of other ports who've embraced or at least have it present, or is adjacent to you (if friendly).

I think it may be faster for you to go West to reach a European colony most likely Portugal or Spain than it is to go East to the Americas. Once you know where the Europeans have colonized then build a colony next to them so Colonialism can spread to your colony then to your homeland. This will also work if countries in Africa have embraced colonialism. Just build a colony next to them for it to spread.

I have done this several times playing Kongo and using the Portuguese to spread the institutions. Usually colonialism was my first institution then the older ones would spread. I know you are in Java but it will take you too long to reach the Americas by going east.

It will spread in my homeland? Are you sure about that? Because i remember only a New World colony will spread colonialism in my homeland that's far away.

Here are the modifiers from the wiki:

It should spread to your colony from the neighbor and then spread to your next colony then next then to your homeland. Being in the Indonesia area I don't see you hitting the Amercias until the early 1600s or so going east. You can hope Portugal or another European country sets up a colony near you in the far east then colonize right next to them. Go with your gut though I don't want to ruin your game by you going the wrong direction. Like I said I did this as Kongo but the jump was close to my homeland.

Yearly spreads per developments
Spread reason Base percentage
Port or Capital of a Colonial nation whose overlord has embraced Colonialism. 5.0
Has embraced Colonialism. 2.0
Present in friendly nearby province. 1.2
Port while present in non-friendly neighbor port. 0.5
Yearly spreads
Spread reason Base percentage
Port or Capital of an old world country that has colonial subjects in the New World (North or South America). 10

you need to have discovered land over there, not a colony, if you get a colony it speeds up spread

That's the exacly opposite of the other guys said :D You are starting to confuse me
gia Jun 27, 2017 @ 7:48am
if you discover land on the new world you roll a chance of spawning the institution (you get one province for free and most importantly, it spawns in asia, so europe will be slowed down in tech)

after it spawns, regardless where, having a colonial nation will speed up your spread (the bigger you are the more important spreading is, unless you wanna pay up the cost to embrace)
tinisiyo Jun 27, 2017 @ 7:53am
To be clear, according to EU4 Australia is not part of a New World. New World is the area where Random New World is being generated. So no matter what you have in Australia: discovered it, made a colony, it won't affect colonialism institution anyhow. You can easily check with console.

That's true only if you are the first right? Because i discovered Amurica but London got here first.
