I'm Assuming That Only European Nations Can Get Cardinals in the College
This isn't adressed in the wiki, as far as I saw, but considering that the tooltip lists non of my provinces as candidates for new cardinals I'm assuming that non-Europeans cannot get cardinals.

More so, this is a feature not just a bug right?

I have no idea, but I always thought any Catholic nation was able to attain a cardinal, one way or another. Sorry m8

I mean its not really that big of a deal, I just found it sort of curious and wasn't sure if this was intended.

I'm not really sure what determines which Catholic nation gets cardinals. Either by luck when there is an empty seat or prestige/relations/etc

hmm interestig to know...I played Kongo a few times and converted to Catholic but I never paid attention to how many, ir any, cardinals I had. I assume I had at least one but I don't remember now.

Just conquer provinces with Cardinals.

EU4 Wiki Says: "Cardinals can only be elected from provinces on the same continent as the Papal States (usually Europe). If the Papal state does not exist, this restriction is removed. Cardinals can be selected from vassals but they cannot be selected from Colonial nations."

So hope somebody destroys the Papacy I guess?

Doesn't destroying the papacy disable the Catholic religion stuff?

Not sure, I'll check right now.

*edit* It seems to disable Curia Controller, but you can still spend Pope-Points.

The Papacy is a titular title. Someone can be Pope and not hold any land.

Once the Papal State has been annexed theocracies can receive an event to become the Papal State which can make removing them a rather whack-a-mole endevour.

Their are two ways to disable the Curia. The Pentrachy event disables the Curia, which signifcantly weakens Catholism as a relgion. The Papal States can still exsist after this event however. Additionally if the Papal States takes the Kingfom of God Decision then the Curia is also disabled as the Pope is not longer eleceted.

I once got a significant number of cardinals from the baltic region as a christian country, so it seems like if you just expand the borders of the faith in europe and crucially control a corner of the land you'll eventually net them

Ok, its good to know this is working as intended.

After looking at the wiki more, its a shame that their are not many if any specific events for a Catholic Japan being that they suffer from not being able to have a single cardinal.

It would be pretty neat that if you're a non-European Catholic Empire you could request the establishment of an Archbishopric from the Pope, which would add 7 more seats to the College of Cardinals and give you at least 5 of those.

It'd be a great motivator to become Catholic as many nations.
