What is the point of adding provinces to the HRE if you are the Emperor
Before this update it gave you imperial authority so it was worth it if you wanted to get reforms faster now i do not know what the point of it is if you are the Emperor is there something im missing?

I'm not sure as I'm still learning new features, but doesn't it still give imperial authority? Hovering over imperial authority icon it still says it's gained by provinces joining the empire.

The icon does say that, but I just added several Venetian provinces to the Empire in my new Austria game and got no IA for it.

for me its just saying it will give you the protection of the emperor which it useless if you are the emperor

Icon indicates that more member states in the empire and new provinces joining the empire give imperial authority. If it doesn't could it be bugged? I'm not sure.

Yeah, me either. It's either an undocumented change (bad) or a bug (also bad).

Check Imperial authority amount before and after adding provinces to the empire. I don't think it ever said how much imperial authority was gained immediately when provinces were added.

I did. I was at 34 before adding 4 provinces and I was at 34 afterwards.
Adding does not give authority anymore, probably because they did not like the stacking up of provinces and using those to force reforms. As far as I know, the only current benefit is not only is it in the HRE, meaning it causes more OE for those taking stuff from you, but the emperor if you are not it, will protect you if that land is attacked.

That may well be true--but it should have been in the patch notes.

Maybe it's in there somewhere in the long list of small changes, but all I can say is it is there for better or worse. My first game was an Austria game that went extremely great, but well, adding provinces not bumping up reforms, and out of no where some minor becoming emperor as the league wars began ruined it. The same minor who had all his provinces reformed, but was catholic... Anyways, yeah it sucks.

Hopefully its a bug because it kinda ruins the point of adding provinces for the Emperor if it is intended though they should change it so that adding a province to the HRE gives you some bonus like either lowered local unrest or increased taxes and manpower

They removed it because it made things easy to get imperial authority. Now I think if you declare war on someone neighboring you, and you have those provinces in the HRE, you can force them to join the HRE. Also some of the stuff the others mentioned.

If they removed it then the information under the icon is bugged because it's still saying adding new provinces gives IA.

I think it is bugged atm. Still waiting for dev to confirm.

Few things to clarity, it was mentioned by devs on a stream/dev diary that it's working as intended, they didn't like stacking provinces and pushing through reforms with brute force, so the change makes sense.

It was NOT in patch notes, so understandably people are annoyed about the lack of communication.

To op's original question "what's the point as emperor", well there's new CB "expand the empire" which comes available once your HRE land neighbors a non-HRE country. So you can snake your way towards other countries and then add them to the HRE. Like f.xe. Aragon.

.... in theory! As "expand the empire" CB has tons of bugs atm. Sometimes it doesnt work at all and sometimes you get the CB without having hre land next to someone and sometimes its just completely random broken ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, so ... yay :D
