Conquered province automatically given to colonial nation, why?
I'm playing as Kongo and having 3 colonial nations rn, La Plata, Brasil and Columbia.

I just won a war against some Inca minor and fully annexed them; all the provinces are in the Peru-region, occupied by me and the peace deal clearly states that I will become the owner of the provinces.

After accepting the deal however, one of the provinces, where Columbias troops stand on, is automatically given to Columbia. Why? There was no event, and from what I know about colonies, this shouldn't happen. I restartet a couple of times but it always happened. Annoying because i wanted to create a new c.nation and now I can't. I believe it is connected to their troops, but they won't go away.

You sure they weren't occupying it?

Huh. You're sure this is not how it should happen? To me, every land you get (be it through colonization or conquest) in a colonial region where you already have a CN will be granted to your CN; at worst you'll have ownership for a day before it's transferred to the CN.

It seems to be the normal behavior: you normally have 1 colonial nation by colonial region (by overlord).

It's however possible to have several CNs in the same region if you annex a country (typically in Europe), which owns CN in the same colonial region than you.

Oh sorry I made a mistake; I didn't know the columbian region reached this far into incan territory, so one of the provinces isn't Colonial Peru and everything works as it should. Thx 4 your quick replies, don't play colonizers too often so I was unsure.

Also CNs siege provinces outside of their region and keep the occupation for themselves (especially provinces which are in their Main Trade Node or directly adjacent to their borders, e.g. a Californian CN in Alaska).

When you just select this province in a peace deal it goes to the CN who has occupied it, regardless in which Region it is.

This can be such a pain because it can be very difficult to see which province is occupied by you and which by your CN without looking at the tooltip.

Just yesterday I had the same problem (again): I wanted to take 10 provinces in Lousiana Region (where I did not have a CN previously) but didn't notice one of the provinces was instead occupied by my Florida CN. So my new CN started with only nine provinces.
