How can I control hired condottieri

I'm in a difficult war against the Ottomans, and AI France offer me condottieri.
I've hired it but I simply unable to control it.
Please, how can I control a hired condottieri?

You can't.

The nation that sells it to you controls it. It's their army still, they are just renting it to you to fight for you. They still have control. Just like if you rent to another nation, you have control of the army. And if you don't use it to fight, it'll piss them off and no one will want to hire condottierri from you for a long time

It's crazy how they get all pissy if you don't fight for them when they hire your condottieri, but if you hire theirs they absolutely do not use it and there's nothing you can do about it.

I remember in my last Austria game AI Poland hired out one of their armies to me for free to help me beat up the Ottomans once or twice. Good times.

God I wish that were me

Ironically I, as the Ottomans, rented some troops from Poland to help me take down the Mamluks. The Polish troops simply sat there in Poland, just sitting there, despite us sharing a border and having military access, while I fought for 8 years to wipe out the Mamlukean armies and navy. It was only about 7 years into the war, when all the Mamlukean troops were wiped out and I was just carpet sieging the remaining forts and provinces, that the Poles came in to do something - helpfully just following various troops of mine as we carpet-sieged non-fort provinces.

You can somewhat leadthe direction from allied AI armies by pushing the attach button on your army. Sometimes the AI will attach their armies to yours then.
