Marry a few nations if possible, but as has been said, if u think your king may die just be in war as much as possible.
You can simply wait for the heir to spawn if your ruler is still young, if its old, go to war as often as you can: the ruler will die and you will get a local noble on the throne, probably with 20 legitimacy.
Lol yeah, i meant to vassals/allies if they arnt already married, my bad.
If you dont have a consort, entering a RM gives a fair chance of consort with an instant fair chance of heir. having a consort also increases chance to have heir from a few event pulses and game mechanics. Otherwise you correct.
