How to control plague?

Hey guys,
I wondered how too control plague in EU4. Every 2 or 3 month the event Plague ID et.69 pop's up and I don't know how to Stop it.

You pay the price for quarantine at the beginning plague event. Its usually just 50 admin points. I dont know how to contain it after the spread though, had the spread only one time when i started playing the game 1500h ago and since then i always payed the quarantine price.

Are you perhaps talking about Influenza events? Because there are events about Plague too.

If you get "Influenza!" in random province and you pick option 2 "This is not the first flu in our country, I don't care!" to avoid spending 50 Admin points, then it can spread to neighbouring provinces randomly. You want to use option with Quarantine instead.

After the initial spread you get the option to quarantine without admin cost.

I literally never pay the admin cost - it then spreads to maybe 4-6 more provinces (i never pay attention) and at that point i can quarantine for "free" (basically for worse penalties in those provinces)

Note that it can spread across country borders too, so sometimes I deliberately don't quarantine. Bioterrorism ftw!

I see. Never got that point. Like i said, i had it spread only one time in my early days and didnt even really understood what was happening. All i saw were negative events popping up way too often. So i figured i would just pay the price. I mean, the Influenza event doesnt happen that much in the game anyway, maybe 4-5 times. Woudl be 200-250 points for the whole game, quite cheap. But i will let it spread next time again, just to see what will happen eventually.

It used to be a lot worse if you ignored it, as it would then spread to nearby provinces, which would then each create a pop up, give the option for paying 50 for each of them individually, and if you declined to pay it even once it would then spread even more, until it eventually hit every province that it could reach. When it worked like that, paying the 50 was vastly superior to massive event spam and huge penalties to loads of provinces. The way it works now, where it eventually groups them and lets you deal with it at that stage without paying, it isn’t always as worthwhile.
