What are Charters? Are thy just colonial nations or what?
So, I looked at the colonial mapmode, and something I never saw before was that there are several provinces that are under South African charter, West, East, etc. What are they?

Charters are the regions of the world where you can set up Trade Companies, if you own either the "Wealth of Nations" or "Dharma" DLC.

eu4wiki.com is your friend. short answer: trade companies are not like colonial nations, they are not a separate tag. they a basically just a province modifer.
