Looming disaster -- how do I deal with rebels?
I have had this game for awhile but did not seriously play it until pretty recently. I don't know how to stop these evil rebs; or can you? I have boosted stability, troops stationed there, etc. Any tips will be appreciated.

It should tell you how to avoid disaster if you hover over the disaster icon. Which disaster are you trying to avoid?

The separatists seize control of a province no matter what I do. :(

I tried everything; literally had stability maxed, 20k troops posted there (honestly don't remember if I tried boosting autonomy or not but I think so). I was playing extended timeline in 700 ad Rashid. It was Egyptian separatists but this has happened to me playing in game w/no mods before, different places. I think what is happening is the game is scripting certain historical things. Used to (years ago) play Medieval Total War and when certain real events rolled around you were toasted no matter how many troops you had. And that is a totally easy game w/relatively no knobs and dials compared to this monster.

sometimes theres just nothing you can do and just have to crush the rebels via force

Extended Timeline, especially in earlier start dates tends to be pretty heavy handed about trying to force certain historical things to happen.

It is possible to stop it, but tends to be really difficult.

Paradox actually got rid of that stuff back in EU3 (EU2 was especially rife with scripted events that don't care what you've done, they'll happen anyway because history said so).

Eu4 is pretty much the same as EU3, events can only happen if the stuff that allowed them to happen is still relevent when it's time to fire. if you do something to remove those conditions, it'll not happen. (such as the Fulani rebellion. If the land is unoccupied, they'll simply occupy it. If someone has colonized it, it'll spawn rebels who try to take it. If you culture convert the land to a different culture, they can't spawn at all since they can only target provinces with hte proper culture).

Ah, thanks for the clarifications there. I have never played the earlier iterations of EU and I'm a real n00b with this one.
