[Updated] How to revert Europa Universalis to a previous patch

Previously you were able to revert back to earlier versions of Paradox Development Studios (PDS) games at will on Steam. These specific versions predate the enactment of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) - hence they are not compliant with the new policy.

In order to continue our endeavor to reach full GDPR compliance, we have designed a new system regarding the access to earlier versions of PDS titles: from the 1st of October 2018 onward all previous versions of PDS titles will be locked under a Steam password.

After 1st October, you will need to log into the Paradox Plaza website with your Paradox Account to access the codes for previous branches of each game that you own. This will, however, require you to link your Steam account to your Paradox Account. In an effort to comply with the GDPR, this is something we need to put behind the Paradox logins as it requires agreement to the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use to adhere to the GDPR guidelines.

To get the codes for previous versions:
Go to https://accounts.paradoxplaza.com/games and log in (or create) your Paradox Account.
You will have to link your Steam and Paradox accounts to see your games - where your codes will be listed.
To link your Steam and Paradox Accounts: simply go to the Settings tab. Under Steam account click connect (you will then be redirected to Steam to confirm your action).
With that done the Games tab on Paradox Plaza will show the list of codes needed to revert to previous versions.
See below to revert to older versions under passlock.

How to switch to old branch versions:
Go to your Steam Library and select your game of choice.
Right-click and select Properties.
Under the “BETAS” tab.
Enter the relevant code retrieved from Paradox Plaza and click “CHECK CODE”.
Select the version you wish to play and wait for Steam launcher to finalize the switch.
If the previous step fails, exit the game, right click properties, local files, Verify integrity of game files and wait for all files to be verified.

Just check on reddit, the code is available there and it's the same for all players. Yes it sucks and it's moronic but that's just the way Paradox is nowdays.

I'd like to point out that this applies to all patches before October 1st. All patches that come out after the 1st can be reverted to the old way.

Hm... i think that is not ok and not legal! I dont want to link my Steam Account with anyone or something for security reasons! It should be up to me and no compulsion! I have no way to prevent the last update! So now i can not play my old savegame. And no, i will not link my Account!
If I can not play the game as I bought it, I want my money back!

After a repair, a car repair shop can not demand that you get something consenting to your car afterwards, which was not part of the order! Please think about it and undo this obligation of account linking. This was not part of the purchase of the game!

I will ask my lawyer, because I see a violation of the purchase contract!

I think its annoying at this time because lots of people will be still playing there save(s) from the last patch . Two patches in a row not far apart that destroy saves is a stupid idea combined with this ♥♥♥♥.

And i hate linking accounts , hate it.

a cynical man would think this is a very convenient way to get us all to have to create and link accounts. I dont know but i hate linking accounts .

I suppose if the code is universal and you can copypaste from a forum its not as bad but i couldnt find one when i wanted to play.

This really isn't a big deal, just get a code from their site, put it into the games settings on steam, and it permanantly unlocks all the old versions just like it used to be. You don't have to keep getting new codes.

Thank you Paradox for continuing to provide the past version of your game, something you do not need to do, but allows players like me to continue playing larger mods after major updates. Your effort to support your community is always appreciated (by most)

I cannot find EU4 at Paradoxplaza.
I bought a lot of games like CK2, HOI4, EU4 ,etc from YOU, Paradox interactive, but all I can find at Paradoxplaza are Stellaris and Tyranny.
I wonder who made this terrible decision.
