Florence --> Italy --> Rome | Catholic or Protestant, which is better?
I'm playing as Florence going for Mare Nostrum, the year is 1518 i have taken all the provinces required to form Italy (including Rome) and Provence + Lyonnais and am getting ready to form Italy. I have taken the restraint of apeals very early and still have -100 opinion with the Papal State even after they're no longer a valid rival. My alies are Austria, Poland and England who are all doing well (especially England they took a bunch of land from France).

I'm thinking of either going with the reformation and getting a center for the military bonis. or killing the Papal State and letting it respawn somewhere else to improve relations and revoke the restraint of apeals for the stability and the economic boni.

What do you think is the better course of actions (besides somehow going coptic :) )?

well catholicism isnt really going to help you if you want to hold Rome. I would convert if I were you.

I did.
Italy doesn't get the penalty for holding Rome though.

The way i did in my Catholic Italy campaign. Rome was the last state i needed to form italy.. So the second i took Rome in a peace deal, i formed Italy, and that removed the triggerd modifier: Occupation of Rome, so you dont get the −1 Diplomatic reputation..

Honestly it depends how close you are to forming Italy and how many cardinals you have, if you've got most of the necessary territories aside from Rome and a bunch of cardinals, I'd say stay Catholic unless you have center of reformation in your territory.

No, if you're catholic you can't have the +0.5 yearly prestige and +1 missionary for holding rome (even if you're italy)

Hmm. Im doing a aragon game atm. Was planning on forming spain then italy. So converting isnt really too much of an option (could maybe go reformed as there is a centrr in ragusa and i own the balkans). But anywho, what are the downsides to forming italy and staying catholic? Does the papacy etc still work the same? Obv pope wont be happy i steal his cores though. Should i just convert? Ive got 1k dev. But i think that includes castillr and my other PUs(bohemia, castille brandenburg) and vassals (byz and venice)
