"The modifier “Counter-Reformation” is removed by the following events:
‘The Counter-Reformation Ends’, if the country is not Catholic anymore.
‘The Counter-Reformation Ends’, if the Protestant religion exist longer than 150 years.
‘The Counter-Reformation Ends’, if France has the idea ‘Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité’.
‘The Counter-Reformation Ends’, if the country has the idea ‘Ecumenism’.
‘The King of the Jesuits’ – option “Religious Freedom won the day”."
So, if you convert ot Protestant (or any other non-catholic religion), you will lose the modifier
Cores of lost nations - not sure I understand the question. Any province will show cores of the nations even if that country does not exist yet/anymore. Some are permanent and never expire, some only stay for certain time. You can free vassal (or conquer one) and then feed them any land they can core (Art of War DLC >> transfer occupation), they do not need to have claims
Navigator - most such achievements require special play where you ignore everything else and quit as soon you got the prize.
You could open their diplomacy screen, which shows you which countries they have a CB against. If they have cores that are owned by another nation, they'll have a Reconquest CB against that nation.
Even Protestants fail to create any centers sometimes, in other games they get 1 or 2, very rarely all 3.
It has been reported multiple times to Paradox that Reformation is bugged.
Anyways, at what year do you guys usually sacrifice a diplo slot for a vassal instead of an ally? I always had the habit of maintaining 4/4 allies.
When to have vasals and when allies depends on the game and which country you playing. If I am expanding fast I tend to run out of admin points fast so having a vassal who does the coring and then diplo annex them is good idea. Then again, sometimes you stuck between strong enemies and not many paths to expand, no point keeping a vassal instead of ally. Their contribution to actual warfare is usually low compared to proper allies.
It is a bit personal playstyle too, some people love their vassals and others simply can't be bothered with them.
