Why is Brittany so overpowered?
In my experiences, Brittany always does quite a bit of colonisation - they are usually one of the first AI to colonise the USA's Eastern seaboard, but sometimes, they colonise as far as Australia, New Zealand and New Guinea. Some people on YouTube even show Brittany becoming a European superpower that conquers France, the British Isles and Iberia (or even the whole world).

In reality, while there were ethnic Breton colonists, Brittany was in no way a major colonial power. The Duchy of Brittany was dissolved in 1532 when its lords allowed the Dauphin of France to inherit the Duchy from his late mother. While Brittany, like Navarre, was active in fishing the North Atlantic, neither sent out colonists of their own - only as part of France and Spain, respectively, once they were absorbed into those 2 nations.

In most of my games it doesn't exsist past 1500. The game can't really be fully historical, it is good enough if magor nations are developing somewhat close to how they should. And Brittany does gave relatively good position to colonise.

I've never had that happen. They don't even last 20 years in most of my games.

Will niemand Elfenbein, Sklaven, Gewürze?

For myself, I've seen Brittany survive here and there, but it's not a common occurrence in my games unless I'm directly influencing events i.e. killing France/England etc. That's the thing with Eu4. If you ask people what happens to x country in their games, you'll end up with different answers for the most part as a wide variety of events can occur that lead to a country thriving or being completely destroyed.

I've seen those videos. Britanny wasn't that overpowered in my games, but still strong enough to eat half of North America and all the unclaimed parts of Africa. Why do Paradox program Britanny to be so strong?

They arent strong. You dont have to be strong to colonise (oh no those 1k natives! the horrors!). AI just gets dumb sometimes and doesnt eat free land like they should do

The only times I've seen Brittany survive is as colonial exile.

Thought this thread waa trolling but now I think you are serious, I guess.

I have seen Brittany survive but it really depends on whether they ally France or Great Britian. France as an ally makes sure they survive into the later periods. The AI is always different and I have seen Brittany become a decent colonial power and other times ntohing. In my recent game Brittany didn't colonize but maintained their freedom until I conquered them over a few wars.

I've seen Brittany take anjou and a few provinces from england before. Then they became a pretty strong colonial power, never really on par with england or france though. They seem to only survive as allies of the french as far as i can tell.

I've never had any expereances with brittany at all, they are usually swamped up by me whenever I play as spain and stomp through france on my way to the rest of europe.
